hello  we have a little bitch who is on her 3rd season at 2 years old we have counted from day 1 of bleeding and taken her to the stud on day 11 she was bleeding still  when we saw the stud she got very excited and stood for him  and very quickly they got down to business with a tie lasting 25 minutes after which both dogs well quite worn out. my worry is that she was still bleeding. we will take her back on day 13 to try again but she is still bleeding today day 12 any ideas would be grateful 

Many bitches bleed for the full 21+ days of their season, whether successfully mated or not.

My girl bleeds for at least 18+ days and was successfully mated on days 14 and 16 resulting in a litter of 4 puppies. 

My lexi has bled for up to a month and still gone on to have puppies and nos sign of infection.

In fact none of my bitches have stopped bleeding during their fertile period.

Same as Brainless.  I have one girl in particular that bleeds from beginning to end, right through the matings.  No whelping probelms at all. 

I have explained to her that "the book" says she doesn't mate until the blood changes to "straw coloured discharge."

She just explained to me that she hasn't read "the book."   :-)

My recent litter my girl started bleeding, we had her mated on days 9 & 11, she continued bleeding - and heavily for a further 30 days afterwards, she went on to have a lovely healthy litter of 8.

So I guess my girl doesn't read either....lol   ;-)

What day you mate varies from bitch to bitch and also from season to season in many cases -some are ready day 3, others day 18, and anything in between. I too have never had a bitch NOT bleed the entire 21 days.

Our females bleed right up until the end of season, the blood changing straw coloured is the right time for mating i think can be old school now with many females, one of our females was still dark blood on her last mating and she had 11 puppies, i in my mind thought she wouldnt take but it was her largest litter. good luck with your litter x

i also agree we had a bitch that bleed till day 21 and she mated on day 13 ,1 mating and had 12 pups !!
