My Rottie male is 9 past ,and always been in good health, have noticed lately how thin he is getting at his backend, he still has 2 walks a day, and I have given him extra food in both his meals, he is wormed regularly, just wondered if anybody has any ideas, or just his age?

Thanks

My older girl who was 11 plus went like this not a Rottie though but a Flatcoat, it was muscle wasting due to old age.   If you are worried I would just pop him into the vet and get him an MOT

My eldest Spanish went like this a year ago and he used to be an extremely muscular boy.  For about 7 months it was just his backend that went really thin but in the last few months all of him has gone the same.  Had blood tests etc. at the vets and all has come back clear but he looks awful.  He still loves to chase his ball though.

My girl went thinner than normal, but she still lived to two weeks short of 14!!   She still managed her walks etc., and loved her food.

My eldest Bearded Collie is just the same.  Wasting of muscle makes them look awful, and I have needed to up her food, but she is happy in herself.  Just getting old, bless her.

The loss of muscle tissue, very noticable in the back end, is normal ageing.
My eldest girl, now in her 15th year, started to loose her muscles
at around 10. The change was rather fast, up until a certain level. After that, she's not changed much at all.
My other oldies have been the same, although none have lived past the age of 11.

Thanks for your replies, he is well in himself, just thinner and eats well, still acts like a puppy sometimes.
Going to the Vets Mon, will get him checked over.

Thanks

Have you considered hydrotherapy? Hamish, my 10-year old Goldie, was diagnosed last May with severe hip dysplasia and arthritis, which had been impeding his exercise, resulting in muscle wastage. We started hydrotherapy middle of last year and he's just been for his booster and MOT at the Vets who couldn't believe how well he looked. His muscle tone is sooo much better.
