Topic Dog Boards / Health / Strange seasons?
- By Cyrus [gb] Date 11.01.10 22:06 UTC
My malamute bitch is coming up to 3 years old and her seasons have been regular up until now she came out of her last season in the middle of november and this weekend has started to show signs that she could be coming into season again
Vulva is swelling but there is no discharge/signs of blood (which she always has at seasons) and both male dogs (one entire - although she is now seperate from them just incase) are showing her attention (sniffing back end, licking where she has sat etc)
Could this be a season so soon after the last or could she be suffering from a urine infection, she is not urinating anymore often than usual

Thanks for your help

My schip bitch did this last year 6 - 8 wks between her seasons but the second one was a false season, we did bloods to see what she was doing hormonally - she even mated the 15 yr old male who was well pleased lol.

Its now been 4mths since that season and almost 6 mths for her true season, not really sure if she's going to come in now when originally due or later by second season.

One of our females came in season end of November, finished completley by xmas eve, then came back into season 1st Jan? never done this before, strange? our  otherfemale who is now in welp was 2 months late this season, again, usually like clockwork.

Was her season in november, one that went on for the same length as usual? If not, maybe she is having a split season. They start as normal, finish early and then come back in  several weeks later.

I always keep a close eye on my girls when they have finished their seasons as around 6-8 weeks after can be the common time for pyo to develop (not saying that is whats going on with your girl) but this can attract male dogs too as it apparently smells the same. She could have a urine infection but i would expect her to be trying to urinate frequently if that was the case.

hopefully it is nothing

Sounds like it may be a phantom to me, even though she may not have suffered from them before??

I would suggest an  doing an ecograph...this could be due to polycystic ovaries. One of my girls had repeated  abnormal seasons, eight month cycles, swelling of the vulva out of season,22days of blood loss during the season, and would interest male dogs for a month before and after the actual season.....we ecographed and saw the ovaries were polycystic. We decided to spay and she seems much more settled in the two years folowing  this op.

Thanx guys, had her checked over she is fine, vet seems to think another of our females has brought her back into season.
