Having done a mammoth doggy wash and about to throw the human stuff in the machine to be covered in fluff for the forseeable future, I just wondered if anyone had tried the wash bags designed to hold the fluff in the bag (pet and horse bedding/coats) and if they actually worked. Any recommended makes would be good too.

they are brilliant, cant remember the make will have a look later.... was bright orange tho, our clothes used to be covered in ginger hair from our horse rugs until we started using these bags... brilliant!

Never seen the real wash bags but duvet cover does the job in our house(tied with a hair band)

I just run a wash cycle with the empty machine.

I have a washing machine JUST for the dogs stuff!!
Diane

I use the orange ones for my horse stuff and also for the rats beds when we had rats - they were great at keeping any gunk off the machine. I think its the Horsewear Jumbo bag we have
Brillant was recommended one on here used it perfect highly recommend.

I also have a washing machine in the garage just for the dogs, the pipes have been frozen for days though and today i was debating wether to put their vet bed in our machine, thank God i went in the garage today and the water is flowing again phew! i wash 5 loads of vet bed a day at least so didnt fancy it in my washing machine, will look at them bags though, thanx

I use the ones from Groomers. Certainly keep the muck from settling in the washing machine but makes the washing less effective on the fluff removal front if washing vet bet etc. But a good shake and the worst comes off.
Also goes in the tumble drier mine is bright oprange and someone on CD recommended it really great. Funny story I did Colins work fleece he was off to London shoved it on and half way up on the train when he got warm it started to smell doggie. He had to stop in a perfume place and grab a sample smellie before he could go to his meeting he smelt like an old wet dog!!! Hence I got a bag.
Many thanks for these replies.
I dream of the day I can afford and have the space for a dedicated doggy wash washing machine ... this is one of my aims in life!
Just doing a normal wash cycle doesn't clear my machine ... I have to do about 6 with my machine and still the first few washes get covered in fluff. Quite costly me thinks!
So, it sounds like a good idea to get a wash bag, or maybe I first try a duvet cover ... when I've done suffiencient loads to clear the fluff in the first place.
Thanks.

I'm not sure if
this is where Whistler got hers from, but it's orange.
SHould say I haven't got one myself, I asked Jeeves, but looks like a good idea, so will be placing an order.

I use decent quality (woven) oval shaped pieces of carpet in my GSD'S bed. There is padding underneath it, it cuts down on the washing no-end. I would have to be washing his bedding every other day. It's not bad at the moment with all of the snow, but when it's wet & muddy I can't get him perfectly clean after his walks. He has never complained & I just hoover the carpet!

I too think this is such a good idea. Never thought of doing this before.
Thanks for the info

I bought the orange bag but found it a bit small..mum made me a large one out of net curtains and its great. Has velcro tie on top but I also put a hair band round the top. The hairs seem to stay in the bag. Hate it though as I loved watching the vet bed going round in the washer and the hairs sticking to the front, but there you go.

I use cheap nylon stocking with the dog bedding, the hair sticks to the nylons but the bag is a brilliant idea, now I need to find a supplier in Ireland. Any ideas?

Hi Otterhound
While the orange horse bags are good - they are just far too small for my needs. The large zip duvet takes all my turtle mats, and there is no way you could get a rug in the orange bags. Even their largest was too small for me.

I use mostly blankets, sheets, towels etc as bedding for the dogs and I've only got one machine so you can imagine it pretty much goes nonstop :s.

Thank you!!
Yes thats it its great do all the doggie vet bed, towells its goes in the tumble drier as well, then turn it inside out and shake out the hair.
I have been known to hoover the dog as well!!!!
Thanks JeanSW, hadn't thought of a doggy duvet cover ... will give it a go.

I have used mine so many times that it is almost faded to white! I don't use it on the dog duvets, it is used exclusively for the washing machine.
But I love it because I don't have to worry about securing it with bands. Just zip up and go. And it is at least 4 times bigger than the large horsey bags (probably more.) Once I changed to an expensive Bosch washing machine, I didn't want to end up ruining it. And it's great to have clothes come out with no hairs attached! :-)

Read this the other day and immediately bought the one from Groomers. I tried it today on the pups vet bed, it was great, no more bits of fluff and dog hairs clogging up the machine and flooding my kitchen like it did last week!!! Super quick delivery as well.

I've just ordered a Horsewear wash bag from Robinsons.
I am SO fed up of hairy clothes and hairy washing machine.
It is so brilliant, all the good recommendations you get on this forum. Thanks everybody.
