Our puppy will be with us in the New Year and as preparations take place
the question still remains....what food for a small terrier puppy and then into
adulthood?
Im sure you all have your favorites so please share your opinions!
Nearly everybody so far, from breeders to the guys in the pet stores, have
strongly recommended dry food (which i have to say is more appealing!)
My sister feeds her American Cocker Spaniel on Eukanuba and swears by it
and its also been recommended by others. The vet recommends another
'organic' brand (which i note they also sell!) and one of the breeders i spoke
to said that they are all pretty such the same and any named brand is fine.
The cost isnt an issue as ill pay however much i have to for the right diet.
So guys..what food..and why?

I feed a BARF mix I guess... Febo puppy food as a base combined with raw meats - heart, mince, liver, black pudding, chicken..and cnned tuna in oil (the lot goes in). I am going to move onto Burns as a basis soon too. Scrambled eggs, rice...and any table scraps all go in aswell...
My Great Dane is 3 months old and he has always had raw meat...and he has the best coat of all the dogs I have ever had. I have fed Eukanuba, Hills, Supa, Skinners... they are all much of a muchness... although mine always found Eukanuba too rich and didn't like being so restricted in the amount they ate.
Thats just me - but I'd recommend a raw diet anyday.

What does the breeder feed the dogs on? It's generally best to stick to the same food for the first few months as the pup will have enough changes to deal with without different food as well.
Good luck with the pup,

My personal choice is a raw food diet, but, my advice to you would be to stick with whatever the pup is used to for now, and do som thorough research into food brands, then decide wht you are happy with.
By all means, listen to advice from all sorts of people but if you research yourself on the net, or where ever, make a desicion based on what YOU are happy with, and not what is the current trend etc. Price, or the well known-ness of the brand are not necessarily a guarantee of quality!

My bitch is fed Eukanuba but she came from the breeder on this:) It seems to suit her (not my pocket, but we knew a dog was expensive when we got her so are reluctant to change;)) she has a lovely coat, nice bright eyes etc etc. My vet recommends Chappie- this doesn't suit mine- I've got one of those bitches where when you go to change her food in any way- she has the runs etc- so I wouldn't go on the basis that they're all the same- but like I said I don't want to change it anyway- if it's not broke why fix it?:)

i tend to feed raw meaty bones mixed with a low protien percentage (20%) dry feed this works very well for mine.if you are determined to feed a purely dry feed then one tip i will give you is this.go to the ingredients list on the back / side of the bag and if some sort of meat is not the first ingredient listed (1st ingredient is largest by %) then put the bag back until you find a bag that has a meat source as the 1st ingredient on the bag.some i recomend are nutro, fromme, eagle pack and eukenuba to name a few.
