Hiya

Can anyone please tell me if they know of a vet that does progesterone testing near coventry or birmingham ? .There is a vets in Derby that i can go to , but just wondered if any one knew of a closer one ..... with the snow on the roads closer is better :0)

Thanks in advance

Why don't you just get your Vet to take the blood and then send it off to IDEXX, much easier and IDEXX are very good.

Totally agree with AlisonGold, Phone Idexx, get the kit, take it with you to your own Vet, ask them to take blood, follow the instructions from Idexx, take padded envelope to post office, easy as that, Idexx phone you with the result the next day.  The only thing I did differently was I paid a little extra and sent it recorded delivery.

Is there a time limit on these kits? I am waiting for my girl to come in and this will be the first time i have had to blood test, so do i wait until a couple of days before i think she is ready to order the kit or can i order one now?

Many Thanks

Mel

No, you can do it now, phone them and ask for a progesterone testing kit.  It comprises of 3 pre paid self-addressed jiffy envelopes, 3 biohazard bags, 3 serum tubes and instructions.  Ask your vet to collect 1ml of venous blood into the serum tube provided, fill in the details on the serum tube, fill in the form - breed of dog, your name and address etc, enclose a cheque.  Take it to the post office yourself, then you'll know when it's been posted, the last time we did it we had the first appointment of the day and then took it straight round and waited for the post office to open and sent it off.  The lab phoned lunchtime the next day with the results.  Good luck.

Just an update
My girl was tested on Monday & the result was 4.4 ...... we were asked to go back on Thursady & the result was 16.9 ....... He then said we should mate her this coming  Saturday.

We are lucky enough to be close to the stud , so our girl did meet him on the Wednesday before the 2nd blood test but she was not interested.

Anyway my Question is  does Sat sound about right to everyone ??? , not quite sure what i was meant to be told regards the blood testing as the vet never said she was ovulating or anything , he just said try Saturday . ( He did not ask us to go back for a 3rd test & i guess he knows what he is doing as he was recommended to us for doing the test in the 1st place )

Forgot to say i will try idexx , if i have no luck this time round . Thanks  :0)

Thanks in advance Tracey

I would always ask for the result ie is she ovulating, so I can determine which days to try.
