Help! My washing machine has just died. It's a few years old so it probably makes more sense to buy a new one. I want one with a decent capacity and it MUST have an easily removable filter (8 dogs!!). I'm looking for a middle of the road sort of price - nothing too extortionate (need a new microwave too - that died last night!)
Recommendations please :)

I have a samsung it only cost about £250 ,and it's the easiest washer to use that I've ever had . It also copes well with all the dogs beds , and blankets and it's easy to clean. Also a really good site to use and can recommend them are 123 electricals. They deliver really quickly we have used them a few times and have recommended them to friends who have also been very happy with their service.
Hope this helps a bit.

I have just got a new hotpoint 'sshh silent' ultima 8kg Eco.
I love it! The capacity, the quietness, the ariel gel stuff at really low temps is fantastic with it too.
I tried to put off buying a new one but it is so good, it is a good idea to check the different reviews online, but I would certainly recommend mine.
Pity you're not nearer, I have redundant microwave.

I have just bought a nice machine when I killed my expensive Bosh.
It is a Beko WME7227W Washing Machine in White from Appliance Online, had the machine in 36 hours of placing my order and it cost me £252.49 inclusive of delivery. it is a 7KG machine and interestingly Beko score well in reliability and customer satisfaction surveys. it has a child-lock which is great as the dogs can't salter the programs which they kept doing with the soft touch buttons on the Bosch.
The three worst in the surveys seem to be Whirlpool, Hoover and Hotpoint.

Don't buy a Whirlpool, I didn't like mine at all. It came free with our last house, we had it 2 years, it broke twice. When we moved I left it behind for the new owners - I bought an AEG (not cheap) but remember being shocked when I washed my whites for the first time, they were really white! :-o

I bought a Beko cos it was reasonably priced and it lasted just 3 years and they are too expensive to repair. I then bought a Zanussi on everyone's recommendations including the w/machine service engineer, the filter is at the front, so it's easy to clean but it's not working either and I've had that just 3 years and it didn't have the load capacities the Beko had. But an ancient Zanussi is still going at the cattery, load after load packed in it everyday.

Built in obsolescence Christine. When we had to replace our Fridge/freezer I remember the sales person telling us that most are now not built to last more than 3-5 years, yet our original ones had lasted 20 years, as had our tumble dryer.
We have had a top loading American style washing machine for about 10 or 12 years now (Philips) and I have to say it is fantastic. Not the neatest machine in the world as it can't go under a worktop, it also uses more water than the average front loader but it takes a huge load, is simple to clean and works really well!

My first and best machine was a Zanussi FL1012, lasted 10 years until the belt broke.
I currently have 2 Zanussis. The older one was much better, the filter was easy to clean and you didn't have to fiddle about with a silly hosey thing. But I think I've terminally damaged it by overloading it with a duvet :( I'll get my partner to try to replace the rubber seal - I split it, and try to put it in the garage just to use for the dogs' beds. My second one was making a horrid noise and now won't do anything. So I'm a bit biased against Zanussi. I've had Hotpoints and don't fancy one of those again.
Did go into Curry's yesterday and thought the Samsung looked reasonable. Will have a look at prices on line.

That is how I recenly kiilled my only 3 year old Bosch that had a 6kg capacity

I can't recommend Miele enough. I know they are top dollar, but I would rather pay knowing the machine will last and last. Our ancient Candy died after 20 years use, and I researched extensively for a new one (washer drier in my case). Miele was the only manufacturer that had constant good reviews. Even Bosch, who we were considering, has started having bad reviews because they have moved most of their production to China, instead of Germany. I am confident my Miele will last as long as the old Candy.

Although I dont have one myself my sister has a Miele only one of the more basic ones and it has out lasted at least 2 of my zanussi and bosch machines and mine have had repairs to keep them going. If you can afford it thats the way I would go
I have a Miele
W1714 and cannot recommend it highly enough. Yes, it is more expensive but the ease of washing more than makes up for it. Programmable functions to adjust water temp and spin speed are a huge bonus as is the facility for a 30 minute quick wash.
I love it, and can genuinely say it actually makes washing easier and gives better results.

I have an indesit just for the dogs, i love it, it also has a quick wash facility, and a filter on the front, cant remember the price but it was less than £300 as with 9 dogs if it lasted more than 2 years i would be happy, it is on almost non-stop.

I have a Miele and I hate it. We bought it because it is supposed to be one of the quietest. No it isn't. I really hate it but as it was so expensive I live with it and I don't think it washes very well.
we have just been given a 6 month old LG for nothing....i dont care how long it lasts for that price! :)

The new(ish) LG is excellent 8kg load & quiet. Think it's quite expensive though :-(

John Lewis own brand (although I think they are made by AEG/Electrolux). Love it - has great 'Which?' reviews, very reasonable price, JL's own 3 year guarantee and free delivery. Best machine I've had.
