I had a phone call yesterday from a lady who bought a bitch pup off me four years ago asking if I would take her back as she has had a baby and has no time for the bitch.
Of course I said yes but it makes me soooo mad!! She has had this dog for four years with no problems at all. I dont understand how she had time before when there was only her and now theres two of them (her and partner) she doesnt!!?
Il make time and I have 7 dogs and am hand rearing a litter of four puppies. If you arent dedicated enough dont get a pup in the first place..............a dog is for life!!!!
Now I am going to have to bring her into a strange home with 7 other dogs and make sure all is well before considering finding her a much loved home. (I know Il end up keeping her).
aaaarrrghhhh!!!!!
I know.............at least she got in touch with me first, it still doesnt stop me being mad!!

Four or five year old well mannered bitches are like Rocking horse s**t and just what most people wanting a breed rescue ideally want as a pet, so you shouldn't find it to hard to place her.
It is the unwanted and untrained two year old males that are the bane of most rescues existence.
> he has had a baby and has no time for the bitch.
Seems to be a common reason to rehome - I heard of 3 over Christmas. When a real baby comes along, the baby substitute gets replaced - so unfair.
At least you weren't asked to buy her back, some breeders are almost blackmailed into giving a full refund "or else I'll put an ad in the paper and sell her that way". Tragic
Lucky this one is coming to you to rehome her properly. Fingers crossed it works out OK for you and 'well done' for doing it :)

Sorry I know things are hard at present but it really is the best time to rehome this bitch.
Many folk who think they want a puppy, would be far better off to take an older, ready trained one and you have just the job :-)
Look on the bright side ( I know its hard
) there have been several pitiful posts about breeders trying desperately to get their 'pups' back.
Do you have anyone on your puppy list who would like to have a fostering 'try-out' before they collect their pup?

Would you rather the people had put it in the paper and sold it to a puppy farmer, where it had no life except producing puppies!
Atleast they contacted you!

This would make me soo angry too...well done you! for keeping calm after hearing this woman's lame excuse for giving up her dog.
Wouldn't surprise me if 4 years time once little junior is grown up they end up contacting you again for a new puppy to have for this child!
Then you can let them know how you really feel about what they have done!

I got an email before christmas from someone whos stud dog I used over 9 years ago.
Rescue had been contacted to take a 9 year old obese bitch ( from my area) who's owners wanted rid to get the kids a new puppy.
The lady wanted to know if she was one of my litter (as she heard it was by her dog)...she wasn't....and has now been rehomed.
Bewildered, poor lovely old girl, none of it was her fault and she deserved better.
It's true...folk make you sick.
I must admit it really does annoy me to constantly keep on reading 'giving up dog - as now have a baby' all too common and all too true of this throw away society.
I've never quite understood how a living creature which has depended on that person and brought love and pleasure and been a family member is suddenly an old pair of shoes to be thrown away as it no longer fits the new change of outfit.
I would also be mad, and also so, so, grateful to have the dog back it is the only blessing even though at a bad time for you with puppies to cope with too.
At least the dog is coming back and you can care for it and look out for it, and hopefully find it a wonderful home if you do not keep it. I will never understand people who can just decide their loyal companion is no longer needed and wanted. My mother raised 6 children with two adult dogs and too many other animals to count, kept the house clean and tidy and always had my dad's dinner on the table, managed it all perfectly like clockwork, we all had plenty of one to one time too, but I guess many of us just get on with things and are able to do so, unlike today when the world seems to have become very lazy, and this poor couple can not cope with a dog and a baby!
Its so sad I had dogs before children and had two dogs and two babies and would not have parted with any of the four. My son's were brought up with and by the dogs! I was always with a dog around as a kid my parents always had dogs and my grand parents.
When we visit family the two dogs go with us or we do not go!! How can you part with a dog? it would be unthinkable.
Its just sad a wrong but at least they stand a chance with you to get a forever home, makes me weep!!!!!!!

that's horrifying, tooolz! Isn't there a way people like this can be blacklisted so that they can't get a puppy from a rescue or a breeder?

First you'd have to define 'Breeder'. :-(

The good thing about the timing if you have a litter it means you will b e getting puppy enquiries and any one of those may be better off with/prefer an older bitch.
Well picked the bitch up a couple of hours ago and their story changed to they dont trust her she is becoming too aggressive and if I hadnt taken her she was going to be pts today. She only had her baby 3 days ago and since then the dog has been banished to the kitchen. I just took the dog and left.
She has been fine with me, my OH and my 10 year old son. Obviously I am being careful. She has been introduced to my dogs very briefly but as the owner said she hasnt been round other dogs for quite a while it may take some time. I wouldnt have done so yet but I have no choice as my dogs have to pass her to go into the garden.
The one good thing I must say is she is absolutely stunning, the last time I saw her she was 15 months.
I do have a few people in mind to give her a home but will be making sure I feel comfortable with her first.
I am glad they phoned me but it still doesnt stop me being mad!!

Even that very short description makes you fear for the life the poor girl has had--but her Christmas angel has come through for her now :-). well done you!

I know what you mean, tooolz, but maybe we could start with those people who health test their animals to at least a defined standard, only breed a litter when they want to progress their line and keep a pup, don't go for more than three litters from their bitch and certainly not more than one every two years, who are prepared to take responsibility for their pups should they not go to another home and who will be prepared to step in to take on the pup in later life if needed? As distinguished from those who think nothing of exploiting animals for cash, that is.Could we have an equivalent of the Asbo for bybs and puppy farmers? Something for APGAW to consider, perhaps.
