In the past Kennel names were at the end as in the example of Bob of Chapelwood, but this has not been allowed for a long time (many decades).
A dog has to be registered with a name of at least two words.
So if the breeders kennel name/affix is chapelwood, he would e Chapelwood Bob, though it isn't compulsory to sue your affix, so he could be Black Rob or whatever, same if the breeder has no kennel name.
A new owner can then add their own Kennel name, in this example Oakshire, with a joining word such as at, of, with, or their foreign equivalents, like avec, Av etc.
So you would have Chapelwood Bob at Oakshire.
The addition of the name must happen before (or within one month) of the dog gaining entry into the Kennel Club stud book, after that the name cannot be changed.
Supposing the breeder had the dog back for some reason, they could have the former new owners affix (eg Oakshire) removed, assuming the dog had not won into the stud book.
This happened to a well known champion in our breed.
