Im treating myself to a new ipod. I have an ipod shuffle but it only holds 80 songs and Im wanting to have more albums on it than that. (I have 50 albums on my itunes!)

So...which is the best? Ive been on ebay and theres ipon nano 5th generation, ipod touch first generation....theres so many to choose from?!?

Help - which ones do you guys find the best?

Whichever suits your needs really. I've got an old Shuffle and a 2 year old Nano - both suit me for what I had them for.
Best thing is to set your price maximum limit and buy up to what you can afford.

Whatever you end up with - enjoy !.

I have just taken over daughters old 4GB Nano - she has got an 8GB one and she had LOADS of albums in it, I'm just trying to sort out what CDs I want to put in. From what she explained the Nano is better than the shuffle as you can tell it to only play artist A or B etc or only play this or that folder but the shuffle it plays what it wants not what you pick.

You might also want to check Creative mp3 players. I have found they are much better than Ipods. I've had my Creative Zen Microphoto for over 5 years now and it still works (In that time, i've been throught about 10 pairs of earphones so i'm really not that careful with it!) and it was only £100 for 8g when I bought it.

Be realistic about the amount of music you want to carry AND do you mainly want music or other options?

I have a 160gb classic iPod but I have a huuuge music collection.  I'm still uploading but I've currently got about 700 albums on it which only uses 35gb.  I use my older version 80gb iPod in the car.  The kids have 16gb Nano's (at 4000 songs this should hold 300+ albums).  My OH has an older 120gb version.  It really just comes down to what you want an iPod for, and also what size you like.  The Nano is cute, small, comes in great colours, it's easy to lose in a handbag but very good in a pocket.  I prefer the size of mine but the kids say it's too big.  Horses for courses...

As so many people will have upgraded this Christmas you're bound to find plenty of choices on eBay - just be careful about the source and condition.  Buying from friends is a good idea as you know what you are getting.  If you are planning to buy new you may as well go direct to Apple, the retail prices are usually the same and you can sometimes get extra deals if you combine purchases.  The Apple stores are also very good to have a try and see what you like - even if you decide to buy elsewhere!  Good luck

Edited to say: as someone else has already said the shuffle is very limiting.  Ideally you want something with a screen.  Incidentally for its size the Nano has a great screen but sometimes you have to turn it sideways which is odd if you aren't used to it!

I have an 8gb Nano, it's very cute, can fit a good selection of music on it, I have hundreds of tracks on it, but I broke the clicker-wheel thingy and can now only change tracks with it on the speaker-dock using a remote :( :(  (I broke the clicker-wheel by being impatient and giving it a whack :( )

So, I had an up-grade for Christmas, a 32gb, 3rd gen, ipod touch :-) YAY, I love it!!! I wont be filling ALL of that space up with music, I will also be keeping a selection of my artowrk on (a pocket portfolio :) ) and am having a great time down loading all the free aps (LOL, I've been like a kid in a sweet shop with that!). you can also go on-line with it. I've got mine conected to my home-hub, so I can browse the Champdogs site from all over the house & garden, (I don't smoke in the house, so I can use my fag breaks to surf the chamdogs site LOL) :-D

I think it depends what you want it for and your budget, for several albums so you can listen to some music on the go then the Nano is perfect, but if you are happy spending more, love gadgets (the ipod touch is so much more than a MP player) then go for the iPod touch.

How exciting, it's great getting a new gadget, have fun choosing :)

I always had Creative in the past but I was bought an ipod last year and I much prefer it to any of the Creatives I've had...I so wanted to hate the ipod too as I was a Creative devotee but I just can't fault the ipod at all (and I also have an iphone now too...I really have gone over to the darkside lol).

OP, I have an ipod Classic (120gb) which I use to store all my music as I have hundreds of albums.  That said, it's not even half full yet.  I generally have it 'docked' in the living room and it functions as our music player there.  For everyday out and about use, I use my iphone which is 8gb...I have about 450 songs on there at the minute plus podcasts, 100 photos or so and still have loads of free space.  8gb will hold about 2000 songs so would probably be enough for your current needs.

The Ipod Nano 5th gen is an excellent little device...I bought my Mum one for her birthday.  It also has FM radio and video camera function.  The Ipod Touch is very like the iphone without the ability to phone/text.  You can use it download apps & games, access internet and email etc as well as using it as a music player.

Daughter was given a ipod touch by her bf for christmas she loves it. Its quite funny to watch the pair of them playing games for hours on their pods ! Mind it doesn't have a camera so is the Iphone better if you are spending all the money.

So the iphone is obviously a phone - does that have MP3 on it too?

The ipod touch doesnt have a camera but is an MP3 and everything else. I think Im going to wait till my birthday because I cant afford an ipod touch but family members could club together for me :-D
