As you know, I'm new to all of this pedigree stuff. My breeder asked me to think of a name. She is going to register the whole litter at one time. Says it's cheaper that way. Are there any rules to thinking up a name, other than having her prefix in front of it? Any suggestions? Sorry, I know this is probably a dumb
question.

There can't be more than 24 letters in the whole name, including the affix, and I don't think you can have "and, of or at" in the name at all.

Shirl they may reject a name if it is close to someone else's affix especially an affix in the same breed but the best way to check that is by trying it. I've no idea about yorkies but some breeds have unofficial 'rules'. For instance Dizzy's famous Casey is called Ch Bellicose Head Case and Linda has continued the theme with a Bellicose Dipstick. Those names are fun, descriptive and great for Shar Peis but they'd raise eyebrows and be disapproved of if they were given to a deerhound.

Shirl,
Holly (my Cocker spaniel) is called Zelbeck (breeders affix) Jet (she's black) Angelina (after Angelina Jolie as the bitch was mated when Tomb Raider was very popular).
The breeder always tries to put something in there to reflect the colour of the pups and the sex of the puppies - one of her brothers is Zelbeck Alfie Coal.
Why not try something that reflects your American roots - or maybe something to do with your family names?

Shirl,
The collie my parents had when I was young was named after an ancestor -- Tristram Trevellyan (sp?) He was always known as "Trev," but that's what his AKC pedigree read as.
I remember that one of my grandmother's schnauzers pedigree name was a blending of hers and her new husband's first/middle names---similiar to Kash on here :)
just some thoughts :)
