Whilst out on a walk 2 days ago Sophie cut her pad on a stone, we have stopped taking her out on walks as it was bleeding quite a bit. It did stop but it started slightly agian today, she isnt overly lame just holds it up once in a while and is still wanting to to for her walks when we take the other dogs out.

(Its quite a big cut about 5cm) I salt wash it to try to keep it clean and have put a platster over the bottom just to keep the dirt out, I did think about taking her to the vets but it isnt worrying her too much and thought that vets couldnt do much to the dogs pads.

Has anyone had this problem before and how have you treated the foot?

how deep is it? if it were only shallow then i'd give it a good clean every day and keep it bandaged all the time until it has knitted together to try and prevent infection. if it starts getting hot or she goes really lame take her to vets as infection may be present. i find sudocrem a godsend in situations like this. but if deep dont apply cream

I did think about putting sudocreme on it but thought that if there was any dirt left in the cut that the creme would create a barrier and cause an infection.

At first I thought it was quite deep but it doesnt seem so bad now and she lets everyone handle and have a good old poke around, she still happily bombs up and down the stairs, but it does bleed sometimes usually after a mad bombing moment.

if its cleaned well sudocrem should be fine to use... salvon would be even better as it doesnt form a barrier but is an antiseptic

Ive had this problem before and if it is clean and very dry no bleeeding or weeping and only a shallow wound put some Plastic Skin on it made by Germolene (tesco sell it) i would say it does sting a bit but if you have some nice treats at the ready they focus on them if you use this hold the paw in the air for a few seconds to dry.But if you are concerned about the wound i would go to the vet first.debby

I would get some hibiscrub from the chemist or vet and soak the foot twice a day I wouldnt put cream on and if I did it would be savlon . If it isnt bleeding then just put a sock on when outside to keep it clean and inside let the air at it to aid healing.
add:I always have styptic powder (hyperdrug) for  bleeding paws etc
