My border terrier is now 4 1/2 months old. I'm puzzled as to whether she needs the middle feed. She's on Royal Canin mini/junior and is a well grown solid pup. Its many many years since i'v had a puppy and finding quite daunting!
Any advise please.
Thanks.
At 4.5 months I would still be giving 3-4 small meals a day.
Remember it is down to the size of the pups tum as to how much food it can take at one time, which is why it is best to give 3-4 small meals until the stomach has stretched to accomodate larger portions instead of small and often. I wouldn't be giving a 4.5 month pup two large portions just yet, but still split the food into smaller portions and spread it throughout the day. :-) That way the pup won't be bloated and the stomach will stretch naturally.

I reduce my 2 small breeds down to 3 meals a day at 16 weeks. Still give the same amount of food, but split 3 times instead of 4. Feed Royal Canin mini junior too! :-)
I don't reduce down to 2 meals until at least 6 months of age. They then stay on 2 meals a day for life.

i would say 3-4, probably be ok with 3 but no less... good choice with the royal canin

I reduced my BT's meals to 3 at 3mths old, she still has 2meals, shes 7mths at the moment.
She is a very good eater and has 2 meals of skinners and tripe or chicken daily.

Thanks so much for your advise. I was just following the breeders feed sheet which advised cutting to 2 meals from 14 weeks which I thought too early. So shall keep her on 3 untill shes 6 months old.
Thanks again.
I always tend to stick to 3 meals until 6months or until the dog starts to ignore one of the meals and then drop down to two
