Both Mums have requested duck for Christmas lunch (will be having beef as well). Which sauce would go best with it -orange, plum, cherry? Suggestions/recommendations welcome.

I think slices of fresh orange, with gravy, is better than a sauce.  It seems to cut through the fattiness better.

Just a personal preference but cherry sauce is great - Plum good too - but as duck can be rather fatty, something sharp like apple sauce also works... or be adventurous and try something like Rhubarb or Gooseberry.... Sharper rather than sweet. The latter 2 are fabulous with fresh mackerel. I know orange is traditional but it's never been my first choice as there are other things to try.... mmmmmm got me thinking nom nom nom

good thinking, I knew there'd be a use for the gooseberries that have been in my freezer for 3 years!

Have to agree re: cherry sauce with duck.  I had the best meal I think I've ever had when staying in the Dordogne region of France a few years ago.  Beautiful tiny restaurant, in the most glorious surroundings in the middle of nowhere, and had a meal of home reared duck with homemade cherry sauce.  Divine.
But any acidic fruit, such as plum or the traditional orange goes well imo.

Cherry all the way for me.  I had duck and cherry sauce last year, delicious.

Hi WolfieStruppi,
I don't think that it matters too much which sauce you use, the duck couldn't care less.

Omly kidding, Merry Christmas and enjoy your meal.
