Forgive me for being patronising but I do worry about this subject. I am sure you are all aware of the dangers of antifreeze but for those who are not, please take extra care when you are using the stuff as it is strangely attractive to dogs/cats as it has an "enticing" smell. It is lethal to animals and if they do ingest the stuff, it must be treated as an emergency. I have already noticed my own dogs taking much more notice of people's driveways and sniffing around parked cars etc. Check your cans of de- icer spray too and dont leave them lying around. The ingredient in question is ethylene glycol and surprisingly enough it can be also be found in some snow globes as well. (There is a lot of stuff on the internet about this) It seems you can get antifreeze which does not contain this dangerous stuff.

Very sad indeed....it was a year ago yesterday when I had to put my beloved cat of 6 yrs to sleep because of anti-freeze poisoning...she was cat number 3... first boy, neighbours cat jackiechan died (pts), day later my girl madge, luckily spartacus my 2 year old boy pulled through and is still alive and well after 6months of blood tests special food and worry...the only symptoms are drinking excessively!

I recall that incident Magica, you put it on here about what was going on.. Nasty business.. How effective is anti freeze without the poison to our dogs in it?

After talking to many people about this, there is on the market now a anti-freeze that has a ingredient that makes it taste bad to animals so they will not drink it up. Anyone please who is putting antifreeze in their cars do this at a garage forecourt and not outside your home- on your drive or on the street! The animals who drink this have the most horrible of deaths for birds and foxes, not just pets. My cat did not suffer but I know for a fact that my neighbours jackiechan suffered horribly...still hurts now that in his hour of need he came to me rather than his rubbish owner! bless his heart.

So sorry to stir this up for you Magica, although I am sure it must be still raw after such a short time. Lets just hope that our posts will make people more careful and hopefully save some poor animal from this awful poison.
