Topic Dog Boards / Health / Three Spays in a Day !!!

Hi,

We are having our MWHD spayed on the 19th and thought that it might be an idea to get two of other other girls spayed at the same time as we will not be breeding from them.
We have never had to look after the post op of a spayed bitch and was wondering if maybe looking after three would be too much. I know that as with all ops there is risk of infection etc, etc but do they need much nursing care or rally round with few problems.
The vet said that may be we would consider leaving till the new year as the date is close to christmas.
Now it may be me, but that sounds like trouble ahead !!! :( :(

I have had 2 bitches spayed at the same time, and two is no more trouble than one. You have to be careful to spay at the right time FOR THE BITCH ie midway between seasons - any other time and you're much more likely to have problems (increased blood supply to the uterus leading to excessive operative bleeding), unbalanced hormones leading to behavioural problems etc. Regarding wound infections, putting the bitch into a T-shirt is INFINITELY better that one of those wierd collars.

But only spay at the right time FOR THE BITCH, not for your own convenience.

Not a problem, our bitches seasons are in synch and have been closely monitored by the vets the past three months. I wasn't very clear with that last post, I meant to say that we have been putting the spays off, but the twist of fate was after one of our bitches lost her litter for a second time so she is being spayed this time end of story, but the other two are mid season and is right for them. It certainly is not at our convenience and most definitely is the best time for our bitches, but thanks for your concern.:) :) The T-shirt intriges me though :D :D

Samma sliced through her t-shirt as easily as she then cut her own stitches  She is very good with her teeth and is part doxie :P ;) She even cut through a car seatbelt and was neat enough to make it look like sharp scissors. (dealership replaced it as 'faulty product installed in factory' ;) )

It's a hint to not relax your vigil unless there's the hard plastic in between mouth and soft tummy :)

I've only had one bitch spayed at a time, so I can't help you out there :) Since you have small dogs, I wouldn't think it would be any big 'deal' to keep them warm together and support them during their 'woozy' post-op stage :)
(nothing negative about large breeds, but it is easier to carry 3 small dogs than 3 large ones :D :D )
good luck,
toodles

Thanks Eoghania,
Still intriged with the T- shirt thing, where do I get a T -shirt that will fit a daxi. I know that when the bitches were in season I bought new born babies panties and cut a hole for their tails and they were fine, is this the same type of thing
