Hi STARRYEYES, no sign of anything yet, pups moving but no where near as much. Just had her out for the toilet, she did 1 soft poo then a runny one and after that she passed a clear jelly type stuff with a tiny amount of runny poo in it, any idea of what this could be?
Oh and she has eaten 1 dog chew (the one a day teeth cleaning chews) but is not intrested in her meat today
Have got her to eat some cheese and bread, which she enjoyed
nibbled at bit of meat but not much

sounds like a mucus poo .the bowels do go a bit loose at this point. Has she been wormed?
Yes she has been wormed by the vet
Just wish I knew how long she had left

thats good but she will need worming again , I do it after pups are born at the same time as the puppies at 3wks, then the puppies again at 5wks and 8wks.
When the contractions start you will see a ripple effect down her back as she pushes just in case you wonder what it is. Have some face cloths or t towels ready for the puppies in case you need to help her , her instincts should kick in and she will take over but if she doesnt you need to break the bag and clear the puppies mouth and nose of mucus with the bulb syringe, if pup isnt breathing then rub them in the towel they then usually squeak then pass pup to mum and she should roll them around cleaning and stimulating them , then place pup on a teat if you can or she may be starting with the next pup by then in which case remember to keep pup in a warm safe area on a hot water bottle or heat pad.
You have probably read this in book of the bitch so sorry if I am interferring just wanted you to know what happens next.
Did you watch the video of a birth on the website I sent you (Debbie Jensen)
HTH
it must be like living on a knifes edge for you! its bad enough when you know for sure thinking could the pups come early! i do feel for you x
waiting for the book to arrive and yes I watched the video and loads more, my days are spent on here and looking else where on the net for info and found some books in library. have got everything people have told me to get, had loads of old bedding, towels and newspaper given to me from people on freecycle, got 2 bin bags full of each, hoping it will be enough
Thanks white lilly. I think I'm more nervous now due to the fact that I don't know when it's going to happen.
Hi, she is fine in her self, Temp normal, poo is soft, lost more Mucus (clear jelly stuff) when she went out a little while ago, she goes poo then a minute latter she is straining as if she is going to do more but just passes the mucus stuff.
Hardly eating today, picked at a couple of things ie bit of bread, bits of cheese and she really livened up for pop corn, do dogs get cravings? she loved it.
sounds like its not long and i mean tonight!! this is what this girl was doing before she had pups ,carnt remember how long it was from her doing that before 1st pup came ? but it was same night , i will have alook and let you know.
it was 8.30pm and she had 1st pup at 1.15am so thats just over 4h so dont take your eyes of her now ...good luck louise and remember stay calm ;) x
So am I right that the temp does not always then? She is not panting either. The only changes are the clear mucus poo, no real interest in food and pups are not moving as much.
Todays temp has been...99.1, 99.4 and 99.6
Yesterday was....99.6, 99.3 and 98.3
taken same times each day and after an hours sleep
its the straining bit you have to watch!!!! this girl did it for awhile when she was contrating ,watch her and see if she starts doing it in the house without being outside thinking she needs a poo!
what happens is it goes high then a low then back up just before whelp! and your went low and now its back up?
So I think I'd better stay up with her then, just in case. Fingers crossed when ever she goes, it will be a smooth ride for her.
they dont pant when the time si very close they go very quite and breath heavy?
got everthing crossed for you and her x
She has been breathing heavy for a few days, more so when she is lying down.
this girl did the same thing for afew days before ,not all do what it says in the books ,wish thay did would be so much easier then :)
what i did was keep taking bitch out on the garden to see what she did! and if shes bearing down alot and nothing happening (poo or wee) she will be dilating.
Lots of activity going on with the pups at the moment, they had been very still last day or two
first temp reading of the day and it has dropped down to 97.7, fingers crossed it will stay down

Ooo hopfilly today will b the day you never know u may be lucky enough to have day time pups lol my butch started shivering and panting days before whelp had first one at 8pm and finished at 9 after having three! Only to find out the next day that she had 3more left even though no signs of distress was shown by her till next afternoon when "waters broke" again. 2 of the 3 stuck survived. So I can't stress enough how imortant it wasfor me fir a vet check the next day they gave her long lasting AB and because of the stuck pups also oxitocin. I'm hope things go smoother for you!

Hi Louise ,
Sounds like were moving.. you had the big rise 99 and the big drop to 97 I would be expecting some kind of movement today but it could be 24 hrs or so but dont relax as its not textbook.
Did the neighbour breeder not get back to you?
good Luck
Thanks Chelcd, I stayed up last night with her, pups became very active last night after being pretty still over past day or two and she was looking a tad bit uncomfortable with it all.
unfortunately not, hubby been driving over there to see if he could catch them in and popped another note through door explaining everything, even offered to pay for their time, but so far nothing, I think it's just a case of someone who does not like helping out :-(
Never mind, I'm feeling a bit more confident and the vet is only a 10 minute drive away if needed.
I think it's just a case of someone who does not like helping out
Or maybe they're just busy at this time of the year? Not everybody is in a position to drop everything....
Should I take her temp a bit more often? been doing 3 times a day at 9.30am, 4.30pm and 11.30pm
3 times a day is fine. The important thing is to make a chart so that you can see a pattern developing.
Maybe Westcoast, a quick call or email of acknowledgement would of been nice. Just what I would do I suppose.
One of ex-husband's phrases "If you expect others to the same as you would do, then you'll always be disappointed".
It's difficult to judge others actions unless you know what's going on in their lives........ They may have much bigger problems than having chosen to take in a pregnant bitch. :(
Yes I have done the chart, someone suggested it to me the other day, so on 3rd day of chart and so far we got....
Monday 99.6, 99.3, 98.3
Tuesday 99.4, 99.6, 99.7
Wednesday 97.7,
I'm not judging at all, hard to put across exactly what I mean over the net, I'm not the best person with words
I think you're very fluent! :)
When it comes to explaining myself, things don't often come across how I mean it, has landed me in trouble a few times ;-)

This thread is now getting very long and unwieldy and has gone way off topic from the original question. I'll close this for now but Louise, you're welcome to start a new one if you have another question or need advice about a specific issue related to the expected whelping.
