Can any of you more experienced breeders answer a question for me please?

My bitch came in to season and we had her premate tested from day 8.  Her level was only 1.7 on day 12 and we rested yesterday and her level was only 2 and she is now on 20.

We took her to an experienced stud dog at the weekend, just to meet him. He normally will not bother to mate bitches if they are not ready.  But he was very interested in her and she was flirting with him.

Her season is unusually heavier than normal considering she is almost at the end of it now.  Has anybody mated a bitch who has ovulated late in season with success or am I wasting my time as its more than likely she may not ovulate any further on this season?  Her seasons have always been regular and trouble free and this would be her first litter.

Her litter sister ovulated on day 19 of her season when we had her tested so maybe its a family trait!

Thank you :)

omg Kenya really? Thats great!  Did you have her blood tested to see if she was late ovulating or just took a chance?

I have a bitch mated once day 12 had 8 puppies first litter and then same bitch mated once day 21 had 9 puppies!!! Mated her daughter couple of months back on day 12 and she missed so think it was too early, will be getting bloods done next time.

Ahh thanks for that info girls.  Maybe there is a glimmer of hope for us then!

We had a female come to our stud dog at day 31, he will not mate unless they are ready, she produced 9 puppies, a female of ours 2 times was mated on just day 7, luckily we started blood testing her on day 7 or we would have missed it, good luck x

crystal was mated on day 21 and as you know had a litter a couple of months back of 7 healthy puppies.

She was mated on 2 previous seasons at days 13 - 16 all with good ties and she missed two seasons in a row so we tried a late mating this time as she will stand forever lol.......and now have our beautiful little faith :)

I think the idea of mating on days 11-13 is a bit misleading! One of my bitches took from one mating on day 28.  Also had a litter of 13 from a 12 minute tie on day 6.
Good luck Justine

Her lady garden has got very big today so maybe things are on the change.  Strange dog!  ;)
