took mum to vets this morning and they think its pyo :( weve had to leave her there im gutted ,didnt show any signs at all ,i was worried she was showing signs of lack of calcium ,carnt get pups to feed from bottle at all now ,having to use a 1ml syringe to feed them so the flow isnt to fast ,and doing it with 8!! ,dont know how iam going to do this ,pups are 2weeks old tomorrow ,large breed so im going to try and wean in a few days say 2weeks and 3days? pups are around 2 and half pound ,how much milk should i give them ?
mum hasnt got pyo! gone to get her now ,pups havnt had much milk so hopfuly mum will feed them when she gets back !
ive been tryin all day none stop giving them milk ,thay not take the bottle at all ...im doing my best here ,their not staving ,i wouldnt do that! its just been a very slow prosess to get them to have it ....vet said she can feed them when she gets back ive been on the phone to her ,mum got a infection and is on AB's just got to make sure it dont dry her milk up ? west coast why you put OMG?

I'd be worried about what diseases mum has been exposed to whilst there.
That he's kept her in. Certainly a pyometra would be serious but a quick ultra sound examination would tell that.
I too would be concerned what other infection she's been exposed to. Do you have any Parvocide? It may not be the recommended action but I'd make up a dilution with warm water and spray her before you bring her back inside the house then towel dry her.
I'd also disinfect myself and change my clothes, just like I do when I come home from a dog show if I have puppies at home.
yes we have some ,will do that as soon as she gets back ,thanks ,im that tired id forgot :( xx

I have started pups on semi solids as young as 10 days when weight gain was levelling out. You will find it much easier than trying to bottle feed alone if/once they get the hang of it, and you can keep the feeds very milky, just thick enough to stop them spluttering/choking.
I would have thought the infection was metritis caused by some retained matter from the whelping.
AB's should not stop the milk, but might make pups a little loose. I would certainly give the mother Live yogurt.
I too would spoonfeed puppy porridge on the tip of a teaspoon and then plug them in to Mother. :)

gosh... you've had a really rough time with these puppies!
poor you, and poor mum xx
going to start tomorrow with puppy porige thanks!! i feel like ive been draged to hell and back ,well wish id tokk her to my vets now ,instead we took to owners vets ....its cost her £110 for nothing!!!! well a scan and obbs all day for nothing!!! a AB jab and a weeks course ....sickness me !!

Wow, you've really been through the wringer!! I hope things start getting easier for you really soon! After all, it's when they're being weaned the work (for us) normally starts...
i'm sure all the heartache and trials will all be worth it...
Are you beginning to regret taking this on? Well done in any case!!

Read this at work today (but not supposed to) so couldn't reply! Then got home and found that you had lots of responses.
Really pleased it's not pyo, but sorry for you. As if you haven't been poorly enough yourself. I do hope that pups will at least try some slop to help you out. Good luck.
