sorry can't spell the proper name for the condition but have just realised my weimaraner- only just recovering from spay-then bad belly now has a fat lower ear quarter. :( she doesn't seem bothered (and is that drama queen if anythings sore) her ears are clean and bug free and shes not been scratching-all i can think is she has leapt about near wall and cracked it one. I'm very reluctent to have unnecessary surgury as she kicked off so badly with the stitches from her spay I dread to think what she would be like if have ear opened up and stitched down-and frankly it only looks like small swelling in lower quarter but I don't want her to end up with disfigured ear either..do they always heal badly if allowed to go down naturally?
I've seen haematoma go down when bandaged to the top of the head but it has to be done properly to allow ventilation, so I'd speak to your Vet and ask if it's an option rather than surgery.
You mean an aural haematoma? Yes, they do eventually heal up on their own; if the entire ear-flap is affected but the dog will probably be left with a thickened, wrinkled, screwed-up 'cauliflower ear', but if it's only a small part of it you might be lucky.
