Any budding photographers on here, I'm looking buy a descent camera, always had rubbish ones, dont want to spend more than £200, what would you recommend.
Its purely for taking pictures of my animals, scenery and when I'm away at shows etc...

Any suggestions???

Nikon do a good range of cameras for under £200.
Called the 'coolpix' range, I have just bought the L100 for OH's Christmas present. Had a quick play before wrapping and it looks fab!

I would personally say Nikon are the best make for camera's out there (*Runs for cover*)  A little more expensive but soo worth it!
I have the D90 and I wouldnt trade it for the world!
Good luck!

Sony consistently get good reports up against the big guns like Canon and Nikon.  I've had several over the years and been really pleased with them.

It really does depend what you want to do, what size you're comfortable with, whether you want to have the option of extra lenses etc.  Also, are you a "pull it out of my handbag and get snapping" type of photographer or rather more considered?

This camera site is quite a good one for general advice.  You could do worse than buy any one of the Camera magazines for in depth reviews and comparisons but nothing beats just getting your hands on one to see what you like.  Most high street shops are only as good as the person serving, so look around until you find someone you like to help you understand what is available.  Once you've chosen a camera you can always shop around for best prices.  Good luck, there are some good deals to be had in the run up to Christmas

some of the best photos I've seen have been taken with the canon EOS 350D but I fear it costs more than £200.  Like you Kenya I seemed to end up with rubbish cameras, I REALLY want one that takes the photo the nanosecond you push the button, not 10 seconds after when my dog has moved out of the shot!

Oh, I couldn't agree more! The number of times I've nearly thrown the camera away in utter disgust for that very reason is too high to count.

I'm sure cameras get slower with age!!  My Canon Ixus seemed great when I got it but after 2 or 3 years it didn't seem so good.  Then I bought a nice little Ricoh with a great zoom - now 3 years down the line it seems really slow and like everyone else, all I get is the photo of the tail of the dog, or no dog at all.

Definately agree with that, i have the canon EOS 450D and it is superb, i have some fantastic pics of my dogs.

My husband bought it as a xmas pressie last year as he knows i love my photos.
It is alot more than £200 though i'm afraid

Canon EOS 450D is a good camera, in fact any Canon is a good camera, I've had some great shots from the Ixus i BUT it's also down to the user too.   I have seen photos taken on a Canon EOS 5D (Which is a very expensive camera) and they are rubbish simply because the operator is not a good photographer.

I have a Kodak and would never recommend them.

I've got a Canon DSLR.  Love it but of course you need to start buying lenses then.  I' m a little bit photography mad, think the SWD people are fed up of my photo's over the years.

> Canon EOS 450D is a good camera

The best mid range DSLR in my opinion.

I take photographs semi professionally now and this is my work horse.
All my cavalier pictures in the 'Fun show' are taken with it.

We also have a little Olympus UTough 8000 which we use for quick stuff. It's the one that is drop proof and waterproof in fact we use it on holiday snorkling....under water shots to 10m.
Top class little camera for around £250

I've also got the Canon EOS 450D, which is great, but for a little point and shoot camera I have a Panasonic Lumix  DMC-TZ5, had it a couple of years now, but it's a great little camera and fits nicely in my bag or pocket.
