If anyone is currently waiting for hip x ray and elbow results, I have phoned the BVA this morning to find out how regular their sittings are at the moment.  They have told me that they sit weekly and their turnaround is 2 weeks.  I've never had results back in less than 3 weeks so its going to be brill if the results do come through soon.  I've waited a week already and I'm so impatient!

me too. been waiting for 2 weeks now. never heard of them being back within 3 weeks!!! quite a shock... normally seem to be about 6 weeks :-D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 02.12.09 15:23 UTC
Problem is they do them in batches so if they have a lot in then a particular r set of x-rays may have to wait until the next sitting or the one after etc.  My last ones took 6 weeks to get back.

3 and a half weeks was my shortest time, back in April this year.  Had another set of results in October this year and that was 6 weeks.  Hopefully the woman I spoke to is right and they should be back soon!

I got my results yesterday by phone from the vet. Xrays taken on 5th November and sent straight off, so 4 weeks.

No results yet, mine were done on 9th Nov so who knows.  Have waited 9 wks for one lot of results this year, always do 2 at a time yet one was done in 4 wks whilst the 2nd took 9 in the same envelope etc go figure.

my scores have come back today... 3 weeks... couldnt believe it lol... and to top it off elbows 0 and hips 4:3.... rather chuffed to say the least, considering how many times the little b ugger has done the splits

Brilliant!  Congrats on those scores Tanya.  If mine are 3 weeks then it should be next week.  Fingers crossed!

That's great to hear about very quick scoring time!
We are due to go to be xrayed in few weeks and really need the results back quickly.
She is in season in February and the stud is abroad so there is slight urgency there if we want to go ahead next season!

Already had an appointment booked but burst sewage pipe meant we had to reschedule.
Usually people need to cancel because the vet is ill etc. No, not us, that would be way too normal :).

I want xrays taken.... vet gets burst poop pipes 15 minutes before our appointment... We only drove 3 hours to get there too!

Nobody who knows me and my luck found it surprising when I told them why we have no xrays:
Oh, did not get the xrays done because the place was swimming in S***...

Well done for the good results :)

When you've had it done, PM me and I'll send you an e-mail of someone who is really helpful there.  There do really help in certain circumstances!

Do you mind me asking how much more was it to do elbows as well as the hips. We don't normally do them as it hasn't been found to be an issue, and all the ones done so far in USA and one I know of in UK have all been 0, but if it isn't a huge amount more might be nice to get it done.
- By Tanya1989 [ru] Date 10.12.09 14:15 UTC
it cost me 225 for giant breed in total. including the sedation...
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.12.09 14:31 UTC
Do you know how much of that was the elbows, as I paid £102 (travelled to an Ortho vet near Hereford) for Hips last year.
- By Tanya1989 [ru] Date 10.12.09 15:09 UTC
i know it was definitely more than half... 2 films are needed for the elbows. which is why they are so expensive.... remember another vet telling me, i would say you'd be looking at 200 ish for your breed
- By triona [gb] Date 10.12.09 15:29 UTC
Ours came back within 10 days when we had them done a couple of weeks ago, we were really surprised as well, but it did take them ages to post the score on the KC website
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.12.09 15:30 UTC
Seems a lot to pay if there is no breed issue worldwide.
- By Tanya1989 [ru] Date 10.12.09 15:56 UTC
yeah, it is lol. i dont really understand why we have to do it.... i suppose its cos we are giant? probably only 1% of leos that have been scored have had a score 1 and above... but then again, id rather be safe than sorry.

Hi all.  Had a call from the vet today, 4/5 hips 0/0 elbows, not bad for a breed average of 19!  Total time of 2 weeks, shortest timescale ever!  Good luck to everyone who is waiting for scores at the moment.  BTW total cost for hips and elbow including BVA scores £265 including sedation.
