...will be two weeks old tomorrow. The smallest male Sparrow opened his eyes on the 4th followed by the second smallest male Jay and hte only bitch Gracie a day later (5th). However, there is no sign of the biggest one Robin, opening his eyes. Should I be worried or is it too soon?

I had the same worry with a large litter of Yorkshire Terriers a couple of years ago.  One pup opened eyes on day 13, 2 on day 14, and 2 on day 15.  I started getting really concerned when the 6th pup did nothing.  I made an appointment to see the vet on day 17.

By this time I had all sorts going on in my head.  The eyes weren't gummed up - and I thought "what if there are no eyes?"

I had (in my mind) decided that I would ask the vet if pup should be PTS.  Arrived home from work, all ready to go to the vet.  Picked pup up and looked at his sweet face with sadness.  He quite blatantly opened his eyes - blinked hard and fast, and said "Gotcha!"  :-)

He didn't really speak!  :-)

That is my worry since I have Pippin who has Microphthalmia. So it's best I wait another few days and then decided whether or not to take him to the ophthalmic vet I took Pippin to. Thank you!

I thought of Pippin right away.

But, logically, it can't happen to you again, it would be too horrendous.  Bet the pup is just a late one like mine was.

They do it to worry us.  I have everything crossed here, as you just wouldn't deserve that again.

I might sound like a bad parent which I am not but I worry about the pups more than I do about my 5 yro! And he is brilliant, he shouts after Jenny when she goes outside "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on them for you!" - it's brilliant!

My 7 pups had about 4 days between the first one I noticed starting to open and the last.  Good luck with yours.

Think the longest we've waited for the Pom's is about 15 days.  My last litter of SWD's girls opened on day 10 and boys on day 11, though they were lazy and born late!

Day 14 and his eyes are still firmly shut.

Give him time - don't give up on him yet!  :-)

ROFL!!!   He will get there!  :-)  He'll have to, just because he'll get fed up of you staring into his face.  :-)  :-)

He has until the weekend or else I have a fight with him :p.

I went through the same thing with my current litter.  He was 16 days old.  I kept telling myself not to email all my doggy friends to ask (they all think I'm nuts anyway - most of them get an email if one so much as coughs on a bit of newspaper!)

I did do a quick search on CD to check this was normal.  When I stopped picking him up to check every hour, he decided the game was up & opened an eye.  I'd read every article going about eye infections etc. :-O

Otterhound, I am so glad.  And I bet you are soooo relieved.  After Pippin, I rather guessed that the worry would be awful.  I bet the little tyke turns out to be a right ruffian!

I'm pleased that things worked out.  They do it to us because they can!  :-)
