last night i gave mum a wash as she was cleaning 1 spot all the time!! well i was shocked just to the side of her vulva she has pulled all her hair out ? cleaning and bitting it!!! it looks sooooo sore :( and is weeping alot she not stop cleaning ,should i stop her and bath it myself with a very small amount of salt in it? ,ive rang the vets and got her in for tomorrow ,ive gave her a shower down to help (just back end) but did clean her down after she'd done whelping....will her hair grow back ?looking at it i dont think it will :( wish id showerd her sooner but had all on getting her init today ....vet said it sounds like the birth fluid as scolded her ? never hard this before!!

The bitch we had over to have a litter lost a bit of fur on her face (where she licked the litter lots), it took a while but did grow back. Iv never come across hair loss at the back of the bitch other probably have, Id salt wash for now to try to keep infections out. How is the litter doing?

my bitch lost her hair on her back end although it wasnt red or sore, she cleaned herself constantly, but it is already growing back and the pups are 4 weeks old,so hasnt taken too long.i cant really notice it now.

yes shes loosing it on her face and ears but the fur around her back end is differnt to what they loose she has bit at it and licked and pulled it out so its made all her skin all pussy and smelly :( im having to watch her and tell her to leave it alone ,shes taken all the top skin off :(

Once the pups have stopped feeding from her you could try Camrosa ointment, its excellent for encouraging new hair growth.

personally id not worry about the vet. just keep it clean and dry and let her be a mum with minimum stress. also i wouldnt touch camrosa seeing it twice cause terrible skin probs but maybe we were just unlucky....twice!

Joanne I've had a bitch clean her vulva incessantly, and get red raw.

I was worried to death.  Vet asked what I had in stock, and told me to use Sudacrem..  if that didn't clear it, he gave me the name of some potion I'd never heard of, and I gaily went into the chemist and asked for it.  At my age I felt a burk when I saw it was for nappy rash, but it was fine.  Began with an M I think.

If you have Sudacrem at home, I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

I have found that sometimes the waters are very harsh and where the fur arid t eh legs and vulva has got wet through it becomes sore, and also the bitches lips and nose can become sore.

I have cleaned the area and then applied a generous smearing of Vaseline, but the skin must be dry and clean first.

The coat grows back lovely.
