Subject: [UKLeos] leo puppies

There is a major scam re the selling of Leonberger puppies going on. These pups are advertised on
many different websites including Epupz, Preloved etc
Please make everyone aware that this is going on, it has been reported to the police and relevant
organisations but without concrete addresses of the culprits not much can be done. We have been
working on this for over three weeks, we have been promised delivery of puppies to several different
addresses, variation in prices from £90 upwards, different sob stories including death of family
members and different destinations of where pups are, London, Scotland, Isle of Man etc. We have
managed to trace some addresses which include a very respectable Golf Club in Scotland, to a dowdy
industrial estate and then to a townhouse in Marylebone, no puppies at any of these addresses
obviously.
Other breeds are affected too by this scam so please forward to any other links.
Photos of beautiful pups are used to advertise, probably taken from our own websites etc.

We need to get this to as many people as possible in the hope of preventing any body parting with
hard earned money to fulfil their dream of a pup.

Can't see how this would work - Surely people are not ordering pups by mail order?

Sorry but any fool that would think they'd get a Leo for £95 maybe deserves being stung like this?  I'm a heartless, I don't know???

i know for people out there with experience in buying critters would see what was coming in an advert such as those mentioned above, just thought id put this on as people may experience it in all breeds... asking for deposits etc. just worth a warning :-).

eta yes i do agree they should get stung, but for people who know no better may be drawn into the sob stories

I dont mind these scams really..no dogs are hurt ( or even involved ) and a fool and his money should be easily parted.

Its been doing the rounds in the bulldogs for ages and ages,
1 man who rang me had sent £1000 and lost it of course, personally
I think it serves them right, just ordering a puppy to be delivered as if if were a bunch of flowers.
Every week or so I get a call from someone looking for a bulldog pup and they have fell for it maybe a couple of hundred pounds they have lost.

This is nothing new, and has been going on for some years.  Certainly in one of my breeds.

I have lost count of the number of times that I have had begging emails from people that have sent off deposits (hundreds of pounds) because they saw a cheap puppy advertised, and thought they had got a bargain.

Anyone that is daft enough to think that you can get a decent KC pup for a couple of hundred quid, will send off the deposit, pleased with themselves for finding a bargain!

It's when they email me and ask for a free one as they have no money left that gets me!  And, to be perfectly honest, I want my pups going to someone with just a tad more intelligence.

Because these pups are advertised at well below a normal selling price, the greedy people get sucked in.  They just can't believe their luck!!!!!

I had a puppy buyer this year ring me, after a time she mentioned not knowing were to look for a puppy so checked the net to look, guess what, there were the puppy scamers. All top breeds of dogs, health checked and vet letter of good health, jabbed. Photo's of the pup obviously taken of the net, of someone's pups.
Price from £150.00 to £200.00 they vet you by email to fill in a form. Then ask you to pay by money gram, as the puppy is crated and ready to be delivered. She was scamed of her money. I my self have checked a few out, and had nasty men ring me up and abuse me. All I asked for was there account number and I would transfer the money through the bank! (If I had recived a pup I would have just homed it.) To good to be true!!
They tried the sob story of the puppy is in a crate and very destressed waiting to be delivered.
They can be anywhere in England and Scotland. I have reported some to the sites that advertises them. They are still doing it. All the site has done has put a warning on. About scams.
It is easy for us who know, but! if someone has just lost a dog of say 12-15years old they don't know were to look things have changed so much over the years. The Scams then were puppy farms.
They see prices at £200.00 for a breed they want and think it's only for a pet. I don't know how to help stop it.
They would not let me log in on a site after I reported it "Roastbeef" There are a lot of sites that allow it.

not all people are greedy.some may genuinely want a pup, butbe too poor to pay normal puppy prices,so get sucked in to the scams.then end up without cash or pup!

it does not suprise me really :( in the past i have had people call me about my breed and have offered to send me a deposit for a puppy which i declined and explained to them that surely they would prefer to meet my dogs first! And the fact that i would not take money for a puppy from people i had not actually met! So i can see how easy it is for these scammers as some people are so desprate for a puppy :( :(

Atleast there are not actual pups involved - one good thing I guess.
- By Carrington Date 05.12.09 22:09 UTC
As the saying goes, you get what you pay for! :-( Or in this case you don't!
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 06.12.09 20:13 UTC
Yes, this scam has been going on across all breeds for years. I'm in agreement with the other poster - if they ordered a pup like a bunch of flowers then it serves them right for getting fleeced. No sympathy at all - and yes, at least there are no real pups involved, so it's only the purchaser who suffers.

I'd like to know the type of person that fools for this type of scam!
