Topic Dog Boards / General / Christmas starts early for Rescue!
- By gwen [gb] Date 01.12.09 21:18 UTC
Over the past few years we have noticed that our busiest time for Rescues coming in is just before and after Christmas, but it seems to have started early this year, with 3 notified to us over this weekend!  Compared to some rescues that is not a lot of course, but we have had just 20 in for the whole year so far, and this has been our busiest year so far.  Jsut hope we can get them settled in to nice new homes soon, and that the rest of the holiday period is very quiet. However,   I have an awful feeling that it is just the start of the rush.  Anyone else involved in rescue - how are your numbers doing this year?

Only very slightly involved with rescue here now in Aus, but seems same old same old.

Our local pound/rescue seems to be overrun with kittens and young cats at the moment, as well as the usual poor old Staffords :(

Not sure what my previous breed rescue is like just now in East Anglia, but probably pretty snowed under as usual.

Very busy as i take in all the Molosser breeds and cross's
Mainly Cane Corsi and Bullmastiff's but had lots of cross Molossers in
just had another two in this week.

Not too bad for Aussie Rescue.... 11 this year up to now including 1 cruelty case. Interesting though as the majority of our rescues come from the same bundle of 'breeders'... :-(

Very bad here, lots of calls of owners wanting to get rid and not single query for the dogs I already have here so can't take anymore in :(.

Yes christmas has started early, a friend who works at a local vets said they have been busy with the clear out of people having older dogs put to sleep for no health reason, just christmas also bitches and puppies, I expect crosses. Don't ask because it pulls at the heart strings.

This thread is heart breaking :( :(

I can't imagine enjoying a Christmas without my dog.........

Thanks to all of you that work in rescue at least these poor dogs are getting a shot at finding a loving home and in the mean-time have people around that care for them.

Well done to all of you, it must be really hard on ones emotions, especially at this time of year.

how awfulllll.most of us would give our right arms, and more, for another 6 mths or so with our old dogs, never mind getting rid for convenience!

I can't stand to think of loosing mine. Love them so much!

"I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL AT RESCUES EVERYWHERE"

Lets hope these poor dogs can find happy homes after Christmas were they can be loved.

I have put a link to my breeds rescue at the bottom of my web page.

Its the crosses that have a problem.

Sending my love to all those who take time and make it their job to help rescue dogs.  Without them, where would those poor dogs go.

Its a shame alright.
I have just today been given notice by our new landlords to "scale down" our kennels of working dogs.
I dont know what to do and have called a shelter but they are bursting at the seams.  This is worst case scenario and hoping to
find a few friends or family to take them before that.
I have 2 weeks to rehome at least 6 dogs.  Found homes for a few but have no idea what to do apart from
advertise them free to good home and pray they get one.
Not the poor dogs fault but what can I do?
So maybe its not just inconvenience making people having dogs put to sleep.  I might have to consider that option yet.

Thats awful can the new landlords do that , if your tenancy agreements says you can keep a certain number dogs surely they have to  renegotiate yor agreement .

Its a tied house with the job.  OH is a gamekeeper.
They all work but some are retired or semi retired and few are too young to work yet.
Sod's law I guess.  New contract of employment being drawn up which will have all this in it.

I've had a call today from a guy who has an old Staffie with Arthritis. He wanted to bring her here and see if I would swap her for a puppy...
