My girl had her first season at 19months,she is 3 now and not had another one.
Has anybody had experience of this please.

I'd be tempted to get her checked by the vet if she were my bitch.  I think thyroid and ovarian cysts can be a contributory problem to irregular seasons.  Also I think it can be hereditary.

I agree, some bitches can be quite eratic with their seasons but for her not to have had another one by now is a bit suspicious?

It's also possible she's had a silent season, I also would probably want her checked out by a vet to make sure all is well :-)

I took her to have anal glands done last evening and while there spoke to my vet about it.
She did say normaly she would do a thyroid test...but felt it was not required at present as my girl is very well in herself and a very fit active working dog.
She did say she would need to look further if we were to breed her,but we are not,so thats not an issue.

My reason for asking is ive just not known a bitch go for so long between seasons.....thought maybe some one could advise me why.
Maybe have to investigate further in the future, perhaps by spaying, but didnt really want to spay her just yet.

Could she of had a silent season?
- By goldie [gb] Date 04.12.09 16:38 UTC
At 19months her season was very heavy for a first season.
IF she has had silent seasons...it would mean at least 3 in the last 18months....is that possible to have 3 silent ones.

Hi,

Yes it is possible for her to have had 3 silent seasons, I've known of a bitch that never had anything else, but it wouldn't neccesarily mean that she would have had 3 she could still be erratic and have had just one or two silent seasons.

Thankyou thats reasuring to know...maybe thats what has been happening,i have only girls,so no boys to tell me she is having a season.

I had a bitch that went 22 months between seasons. She settled down to a normal routine after but was never very regular.

Thankyou Alison.
Maybe she will be the same.

Well if you don't intend breeding at least it means you don't have the hassle as often :D
