Topic Dog Boards / General / Whats a Silican Mastiff??
- By kenya [gb] Date 02.12.09 16:15 UTC
There's one in my paper crossed with a Bulldog for sale!!!
- By HuskyGal Date 02.12.09 16:31 UTC
*Giggle*

Do you think they mean 'Sicilian' ;O)

The Mastiff group is, I have to say, my weakest but am I correct in thinking that Sicilian Mastiff isn't quite right but should be Sicilian Branch- something? (can't remember it!!!) and is that a Cane Corso in fact??

Like I said not a group I'm au fait with!

Cane Corso (Sicilian Brancheiro) aka Sicilian mastiff - or so it seems to be saying on google.

I had to laugh - it sounds like a plumbers spelling mistake for something you might seal your bath with...

...and I'm fairly sure there's another joke in there somewhere involving the dog it's crossed with.  Too rude for daytime :0

Its a Cane Corso, oh my god crossed with a bulldog what a nasty mix, how/???? Our Cane Corso bitch is larger than a Rotweiller

Its a Cane Corso, I phoned the people and asked, they bought it for there daughter!!
She said she's a lovely dog, but very possessive!!
- By triona [gb] Date 03.12.09 12:49 UTC
Of course its possessive that's a Cane Corso down to a T, deffo not a dog for the first time owner they are quite hard to keep as they love to challenge their owners which obviously you would keep on top of, and have loads of drive.

Since our family have had one I believe that they though great with the family, they are suited best to working homes. If the daughter was quite young she might not have been able to handle this type of breed, and with this unwise cross id would keep well clear unless you knew what you were doing.

Really, possesiveness is a trait of a Cane Corso?

That is awful, to have such a large, powerful dog with posesiveness as a breed trait is asking for trouble :( I know that the mastiff group are very head strong and are not push-overs, but possesiveness is not something one would expect (or want) from a huge dog that should be protective of it's family and very loyal.

Well i disagree they are nothing like you are saying
I have had this breed for years and work with all Mastiff breeds
The Corso is a big dog with a brain and loves to PLEASE it's owner
I have them come into my rescue all the time and they get like this because the owners dont understand them or train them correctly
They leave me as wonderful family pets well behaved and well trained and all the families that have had one from my rescue will tell you how wonderful they are.
And i dont think you can say that they are not for first time owners it depends on the people them selves
some people shouldn't own any dog Large or small....
The Corso SHOULD never be out and out aggressive if it is it is down to the owner or breeder....

corosgirl, you replied to my post (I got the notification), I'm a little confused as I have not stated how the breed is (as I don't know anything about them other than that they are part of the mastiff group), I questioned another poster who said they are posesive. I was suprised as loyalty and proctevieness are strong traits in the mastiff group which goes against posesiveness (unless of course the dog is poorly trained) .
