On another dog forum I go we can put signature pictures up and in one the dog is seemingly hanging by his neck from his leash with his tongue hanging out as if he is gasping for breath.  The dog looks like it is strangling.  Now, of course it isn't, it's a young pup and the owner has cropped the people out of the picture.  All you see is the leash coming straight down to the dog's neck.  Every time I see it I think, I should PM that person to say how the photo appears to me.  Possibly no one else gets that impression.  Then I think, why make myself unpopular with even one other person, who does seem to be a caring consciencious dog owner.  Would you do it?  Tell her/him how it looks?

I think I'd send a light-hearted message along the lines of "Am I the only one to think that the dog in your picture looks almost as though it's being strangled? Isn't it strange how photos can be so misleading?" or something like that.

I'm with Jeangenie, a lighthearted 'aren't I silly' kind of post might point it  out without being confrontational :)
