Hi ,

I'm making up a cd for boyfriend for christmas with some love songs on that remind me of him , and us. We only get to see each other about every 3 months so wanted to give him something he can listen to and keep. Have got about 8 songs but can anyone name any "miss you but love you even though your far away" sort of songs? if that makes sense!

Dire Straits - So far away.
Not what I would class as a love song but each to their own :)

Footprints in the sand - Leona Lewis.

Amazing song.

For me, music is such a personal subject, although a huge part of my life and a shared enjoyment with my OH.  Some 'love songs' would have me running from the building or reaching for a bucket.  I'm equally sure that my OH would not forgive me for a CD of wailing women (his words).  However I accept that we may be unusual :)

Just making a CD of any kind takes a great deal of thought and care over tone and content. There is some music I could put on a CD for my husband which would be a gift ie something that he likes, but I don't.  There are also tracks that, although not traditionally classed as love songs, would remind us of a particular event or period in our lives, and prompt warm fuzzy feelings for each other.

I suppose what I'm saying is that your compilation needn't be just the standard stuff.  You don't want your poor bloke to wallow in misery when he listens to it and it would be nice to make him smile when he thinks of you.  It's always worth looking at films he likes and checking out the music - even better if these are films you've watched together as it will prompt good memories.  Breaking up the string of 'miss you' songs with a few of different types will only strengthen the message.  That said - Bill Withers Ain't No Sunshine, might make my list...

The film of Hi Fidelity has some very good things to say about compilation tapes:  "The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don't wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules."  "Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing."

Good film too.  Good luck with your CD - maybe you could post us a track list list when you've finished.  I love to see other peoples choices - fascinating :)

> miss you but love you even though your far away" sort of songs?

'2000 miles' (the pretenders).      Coldplay have done a cover of it, sung form the mans persepctive

I love it, it's such a slushy, 'missing my man in the winter' kind of song.

Gosh, I haven't made a complitation for my OH in years, it's a great idea for a xmas pressie :)

Just thought of another - Ronan Keating, 'Bring You Home'

First verse :

When you're lost and there's no where to go
And your heart bears a heavy load
Don't give up 'cos you are not alone
'Cos I am always here to bring you home

:)

She was right - it is a creepy song about a stalker - even Sting says so.

It is!  If you listen to the lyrics properly, it's not a standard love song.  It's about obsession with someone who doesn't feel the same way.

Can't Get By With out You = The Real Thing
Sexy Thing = Hot Chocolate

And for a giggle how about any of the ones by Lily Allen.... don't know the track title but she sings about "staying in bed all day and getting up to exercise the dog and get a chinese".... so normal!!!
- By Zaska [gb] Date 02.12.09 15:17 UTC
Isn't it funny how people's music taste differs? Songs that mean a lot to me an OH can sometimes be a little 'different'...

Patience - Guns n roses - very appropriate if it's a long distance or waiting game relationship
For crying out loud - meatloaf
Sometimes when we touch - Dan Hill
Leather & Lace - Stevie Nicks
Lost inside of you - Barbera streisand
Make it with you - Bread
I never had it so good - Jack Jones
Truly, madly, deeply - savage garden

The list goes on :)
