Before anyone asks lol i have loads of books which i have been reading , but i wondered if anyone has the time to post up a list of things they bought in advance for having a litter ..... i have a large breed :0)

Feel free to post anything at all you think i will need to have or even just anything that will give me more ideas so i can be as clued up as possible thanks

I have thought long & hard about doing this & i would like to be 110% ready and confident :0)

petnap whelping kit. great way to get most of the stuff you need in one package. works out cheaper too. so, things are on the move then?!? its dead exciting init lol

Here goes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Loads of newspaper, or lineing paper brought on the roll at D.I.Y store, for the whelping box and surround area of the whelping room once pups start getting active.

Vet Bed x 3 at least, needs to be changed once or twice a day if not more.

box with newspaper and bedding in so that pups can be safely placed in there while mum is giving birth, box needs to be close to mum so she can see her newborns, but not in the way.

Puppy milk, I use litterlac, given to mum for drinks throughout pregnancy and stock in for when pups need weaning.

Heat pad or heat lamp, I use heat pads,

plenty of old towels to rub pups when they 'pop' out

some thread / cotton to tie off the anbilical cords

Plenty of coffee for yourself to help keep you going!

pen an paper to write down the time of each birth so that you know how things are going

Vets number in case needed

Fresh drinking water for mum incase she needs a drink

Torch to take out in the garden with mum when she needs a pee (most births happen at night!)

Puppy Life Line medicine, incase needed (I bought some but have never had to use it thankfully)

Puppy weighing scales, very important for the first days/weeks to make sure they are all gaining weight.

Vet Bed I normally buy about 10 pieces which can be cut into two, so end up with 20 pieces

Aspirator to removed fluid from pups mouth/nose

Some way of identifying pups should they all be the same colour etc.

Liquid Life aid

Dopram v

Coll0-cal D - liquid calcium

KY Gel just in case of a stuck pup

Clamps for the cords should the need arise if mum doesn't do it

also scales to weigh them :) good luck!

With a large breed you will need some outside shelter and enclosur for then they reach 4 weeks plus and need extra space and fresh air.

A lot of peopel don't seem to think past the 'in the nest' stage, when they becom a four legged pooing, chewing, noisy, wrecking crew.

This will also mean that you cna keep the pusp seperated from the other dogs, though I always allow my adults to be able to visit the pups but the pups not be able to get out and pester the adults.

A whelping box that can be covered to form a den.  an indoor pen to attach to or replace this.

Lots of Light coloured Vetbed vfor the first few weeks before they are comign in and out from the garden, then lots of darker.

You will probably need to change their beds about 3 times a day adn need more than oen piece with bigger litters as they grow.

A heat source (I prefer a heat pad).

Emergency feeding equipment and formula.

Print yourself a list off with the advice you have had from here, then keep it by you when you are shopping online or take it out with you when shopping and tick off the items as you buy them.
