My butcher who supplies all the pubs and resteraunts has a glut of turkey at the moment FREE!!! He removes the breasts and wings, and the legs then the rest is waste. He has offered me as much as I want free and never one to pass a free dog dinner up I have brought on two to see how they like them. I have a large breed who will happily eat lamb ribs, chicken necks, beef brisket etc. I am thinking just remove the guts (Not the organ meat) and chop them up  and feed like that, do you think they will be OK with the ribs and backbones?? and the heads?? they do sometimes have chicken carcasses but these are HUGE!!

We sometimes feed turkey carcasses, although I do find it gives mine wind if they have it too often.

do they manage the bones OK I wonder (now i have had a good look at them) if they may be too hard for them and they may swallow them in big bits?? The neck bones are about as big as a 50p piece!!!

Well one of ours favourites were turkey necks.

The bones may be large but the birds will be very young.

Presumably the bone density and composition is similar to chicken - might be worth checking on BritBarf - so I can't see any problems.  I'd just portion them out into reasonable amounts and stick the spare in the freezer.

Mine love necks and have eaten most of the components, just not in carcass form, with no problems.  I'd draw the line at heads just cos it makes me feel squeamish but my dogs probably wouldn't :)

I seem to recall that poultry carcasses are app 65% bone - another Britbarf nugget of info.  Although it sounds as if you might have more meat than usual, particularly if you still have the organ meat. Lucky you

Mine love turkey neck :) They (19kg and 21kg) eat it with no problems although I cut long chunks up a bit smaller for my 12 year old :) On the odd occasion they swallow a large bit and bring it back up and chew it a bit more !! :) :) I don't give it to them more than once a week though :)

Well I have "Chickened out" and just stripped the meat out...yuck messy job, and off two carcasses have got enough for about 4 meals for my three 45/53kg girlies so not bad. I felt they may swallow the bones whole as they are so big (The girlies) especially the neck bones and was worried they could get caught in thier throats..they are big mouthed dogs after all!!! They are good with ribs and scrunch them up but I am not quite a long enough established raw feeder to brave it. So Dogsababe...do you want the buchers name? if you have a freezer he has 15/20 carcasses for the next 4 weeks going free?? and yes lots of meat on them as they have all thier innards still and the heads and necks. I will happily collect them for you but cannot store them as freezer space is limited with the gilries meat (He gets me lots of lamb ribs and brisket bones too!!!) let me know and I will tell him they are usually ready to be collected on a Thursday.

I have bought cheap whole turkey and cut them up into meal sized portions for mine they crunched them down fine

I go to a slaughter house/farm shop might ask him to keep them for me he must sell lots in the shop, worth asking, thanks
