friends bitch is on day 54 and is massive ,she is that big that when you down over her her sides stick out so much ,but she is going in at the sides ? does this meen her pups have dropped ?? she is still eating well ....having 4/5 small meals puppy food with fresh meat in it ...shes started taking her temp today and its 37.5 shes loosing small amonts of mucus its clear and no smell ,shes panting on and off but could this be cus shes so big and abit stressed? ,shes also been lyin streched out alot over the last 2days ,do you think its worth her taking her for another scan to see just how many pups shes having or would it be to later in to see them all ? she cleans herself alot ,but thats normal at this stage ! im just wondering if shes going to go early ,what do you think guys ? this girl is a large breed dog .

Iv seen some very big bitches that have average sized litters, I think this particular bitch must have been carrying more liquid, our large breed drops very late because they are quite muscular. I dunno if day 54 is too late to have another scan I think it might be... but equally if she is carrying a large litter she would probably go early. With the panting and stretching I think she might be ready to go in under a week as she has only got about 10 days to go. Make sure your friend is ready

my girls didnt , but would be ,low in the morning then higher at lunch time and the same temp as lunch in the eve , so i dont know ....ive just been and hunted my last litter temps , she had 3days left when her temp started dropping to this ,but mine arnt her dog ,and my girl was day 61 when she whelped,with small litter of 4,but we have the same breed ,and this breed can have 12 pups , ive only had 1 litter with this breed and doing so much resurch but keep getting conflicting stuff lol so we will just have to see how she goes ,some have told me ,mainly go 5days early if liter is big ,so maybe thats why my girl only went 3days ? lol x

will be interesting to see what temp is in the morning !

Fingers crossed then, that she doesn't go into labour just yet, as it is unlikely that pups woud be viable.  I once had a bitch whelp 10 days early, and I tried so hard, but the pups just didn't stand a chance.

I have regularly had bitches whelp 7 days early with no problems at all.

yes jeanSW im prayin she holds on to them for another 4days , she is only 54 by 1st mate and 53 by 2nd ,but she mated on day 24 ,mine have never mated that late .x

Glad that others have had a bitch mate late!  I once had a bitch mate on day 28 (not intended.)

My vet told me that she couldn't be pregnant, so it was pointless going for the jab!

She whelped 7 puppies!

yes her vet told her the same lol ,ive just rang her and shes took her temp again and its now 37.1 :( .....god im worried now ! she has had kennel cough and was put on AB's for this ,she finnished her course about 5days ago !

its a shame you're taking her for a scan i honestly think its too late and youd not see numbers hun.
you'll come out  with your pocket lighter and none the wiser.tell your freind to think about it.your gonna know sooner or later actually sooner rather than later its not worth putting the bitch through.i would just wait it out what does it matter there may be a large litter anyways??

my bitch was huge and i mean huge she waddled everywhere and stopped inbetween walks to the kitchen,fittest bitch i know so not that she was unfit she was just uncomfortable towards the end  like we get!!

she whelped 6 very large puppies and with help i might add.i had to get in there and help her with three pups.my biggest pup born was (id have to look it up to get it spot on but) just under 700g,thats big.
but as well as that she was full of fluid.
id say stop worrying and let nature take its course,just be there foir her if she needs you.having the stress of it all as you well know bitch will know and you'll stress her out.take a deep breath and tell your freind it will be fine.your there to help.

hi tamara ...we went but not my money ;) ....she just needed to know things were ok :) the 1st pup is breech :( but not be the 1st time for me so lets hope i get there in time !!! ...its put her mind at rest now so hopfuly she will calm down now :) xx

Makes me smile.  :-)   What about all the times people arrange it just right and the bitch doesn't end up pregnant.

I suppose it's a bit of a problem that my bitches have just never read the book.

well perrodeagua ,the 1st scan she had she saw 6 and said maybe more ! today we saw 4 quite big pups ,scanner said it was impossible to see the rest because she was so full so we will have to wait now and see :) god it feels like this girl is 1 of mine lol im so excited ,but not long now to wait and see , i think now she going to bring her here 2morrow and shes staying here till pups are weaned ,i know 100% she will be fine here she says here alot and is very happy here ,so i feel happy now and i know the bitch will feel less stressed here ,as friend is flapping way to much and bitch is picking up on this ! so the waiting game starts from tomorrow for me lol ,maybe only a week to go !! x

We once had a Pom take about day 30, she looked as though she'd gone out of season, put back with the other dogs and low and behold 7 weeks later 3 pups arrived!

her temp has gone back up tonight ,was 37.1 this moring and tonight its 37.4 so shes not having them yet :) told friend to keep her legs shut till after to morrow lol !x

well mum to be is here and very settled :) ive been obbserving her all day ,im feeding 6 small meals aday ,i can see them moving but only just ,she is huge!!!! she carnt lie down on her sides ,she has to lie on her middle ,poor girl she does look fedup and is sleeping alot now ,day 56 so only 1week to go and thats if she does ,can i ask ,if a bitch goes afew day early on 1st litter does that meen she could go the same on 2nd ? she had 6 1st litter ,im sure shes having more this time .......she keeps trumping and i feel sick lol
