My partners dog has been fed on Nutro dried food since he was a puppy and has done very well on it. But due to Nutro going out of business, we are going to have to change him on to something else. Can anybody recommend a good complete food that is fairly widely available? (There isn't a lot of pet shops around here) All my dogs are fed raw so i'm not really up to date with 'good' and 'bad' complete foods. I have suggested feeding raw as I have found it highly beneficially. But this isn't really an option for him. Also the dog is also quite fussy and tends to turn his nose up if you add anything to his food (Such a nature diet or homemade 'dog' food). So he defiantly needs a high quality complete food. Any suggestions of brands I can look at? I seem to know more about brands to avoid rather than ones that are any good lol. Thanks in advance!

Arden Grange is a good one that mine have always been happy and good on.

My old Gordon was as fussy as could be and seemed to thrive on Purina pro plan.  He rarely turned his nose up at if (so long as it was topped with something) whereas some other foods, he'd only eat one 15kg bag before turning his nose when you bought the same thing again

Orijen is very good (70% meat, 30% fruit/veg, 0% grain).

I had to do exactly the same when I had trouble getting Nutro!  I moved mine straight to Arden Grange Lamb and Rice with no trouble at all and even my fussy one just carried on as normal - in fact I think he preferred it :)

The cheapest prices are often online and I have found VetUK has consistently been the lowest.  You do need to buy 2 bags or more to avoid the delivery costs though

Alternatively there was a thread on here recently about CSJ foods which may be worth a try

I agree, Orijen is the best qaulity food you can get www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk (apologies new to this site so not sure how to post a live link?) I used to feed ours Burns which is also a good food but found that, our dogs always seemed to be hungry and started poo eating (sorry) so am guessing its missing something? Looking at the ingredients compared to Orijen. Burns fish & Brown rice is only 18.5 (fish meal, protein) and a wacking 63% brown rice!! why do dogs need to eat that much rice in their diet?? When I saw the ingredients for Orijen I was blown away check out their website. 

Sarah....we always fed our dog on Nutro, but Zooplus stopped selling it due to supply problems, we switched to Arden Grange Lamb & Rice & he loves it. I did notice that Zooplus now have one in stock, but has gone up to £46 a bag! I get the AG for £30 for 15kg.

Does anyone know what happened to Nutro, they had a company here, has it gone out of business?

I use Origen in conjunction with a raw diet and can recommend.  It's currently cheapest HERE with a free toy (a good one at that :) ) and free delivery total only £45.99 compared to the Origen website

Worth noting that Origen comes in largest of 13.5 KG bags as opposed to most other brands where the largest bag is 15 KG however I find I use less of it than other quality brands so it doesn't work out as expensive as it first appears.

another vote for orijen here.  My rott boy is on it and although it isn't cheap I feed half the volume I had to feed of beta.

My staffy is on salters which I buy online as it isn't available in shops but it is great too. 

our boxer pup is on Orijen and doing very well, where as our fussy boston is on arden grange/james welbeloved sometimes puppy sometimes adult i must be mad giving in to her whims!

I use Royal Canin mini sensible and nature menu tins for my two as I also have one that is particularly fussy and the sensible Royal Canin is aimed at fussy eaters. My two are toy poodles hence the mini sensible but they do a sensible one for bigger breeds as well.

I used to feed nutro, went onto taste of the wild which is very good. Arden grange is also a quality food

Eukanuba  is good ,  19 KILO BAGS of Everyday just £24 per bag,,,
the Lamb rice is in 20 kilo bags £37 per bag, they also do sensitive diet
and a light,,, the puppy strat is also great..

You can get them direct from Eukanuba, look on their website join up as a breeder and bingo you can order everyday food direct, think you might need to order 4 bags tho for free delivery, i hope this is correct as it was some time ago i used them as now on the raw diet

Personally I wouldnt touch Eukanuba, Iams, Pedigree any of those with a barge pole!! full of all kinds of horrible additives some hidden so you have no idea what you are giving your dogs. Orijen do only go up to 13.5kg bags for the pet market but if you are a breeder and register with them, you get a 15% discount and can get a 20kg bag for the price of a 13.5kg around £60.

You are so right.  I have recently had delivered some sample bags of Royal Canin mini sensible, and I'm amazed how quickly it disappeared!

If you shop around the 13.5kg bag works out at about the same as you get it in the breeders programme.

feed mine on skinners duck and rice. suits her delicate little belly.  paid approx £30 for 2 x 15kg bags delivered to the door via internet.
