Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / hemivertabrae test on french bulldog
- By dogydogy999 [gb] Date 16.11.09 02:49 UTC
enquirying for my friend who wants to breed her 20 month old french bulldog bitch.

hi does anyone know or recommend some vet where do the hemivertabrae test for dog? it is better in west midlland.  and I know it is kind of xray, can the vet do sedation instead of anaesthesia before taking film? who has some more experience or recommend? how much will that take? is the hemivertabrae test result sent to Kennel club and recorded in their Registration Number just like hip score?

thank you for all reply.

Any one serious about their breed really ought to join their breed club where they can learn all about their breed and to find out about the current state of it's health issues and what measures members are taking to address these.

To do otherwise is really like walking around blindfolded.

Details about health can be found here: http://www.frenchbulldogclubofengland.org.uk/healthscheme.htm on the French Bulldog Club of England Website http://www.frenchbulldogclubofengland.org.uk/

I would also advise that your friend attends shows to see the what dogs are producing what,a and to get to know more owners and breeders before embarking on breeding.

The bitch seems to me to be quite young enough not to be considering a litter just yet, so time to do some research.

Past breed club yearbooks can be very informative, you will need at least 10 years back to get an idea what different lines are producing.

don't think she's that young is she?  She's only 4 months off 2 years of age and sounds like the person is wanting to do health tests before breeding, or am I reading it wrong?

Hope she does join a breed club etc. as has been suggested and find suitable males.

What I meant is that there is no desperate rush so time for some in depth research before taking such a big step.
