I've heard that Kc is doing the rounds too now.  I'm sure the Vet wouldn't have given the dog any ab's that would have affected the puppies.  There are a few virus's with Kc and most of the time its more of an irritant but it can make old or young dogs quite poorly if it gets on to the chest.

You can give them benylin to help ease the coughing but I'd check with the Vet before giving it to a bitch in whelp.

I give the childrens non drowsy one to my old girl who has bronchitis, as sometimes her chest gets abit rattley, and she is fine with it.

When 1 of my dogs had it last year, I got ab's for all the others too and fortunately nobody else caught it.

Don't know about kennel cough when bitch is in whelp. However it does affect certain breeds worse than others . My sisters french bulldog had it recently and he was ill for 5 weeks , he also had the injection at the vets and medication. The vet said it was due to the short nose and that these type of breeds suffer most.
Hope your friends girl is okay. x

Not every case of kc is the same, and I have only written what I experienced and I would say that it does not mean that your friends bitch will have the same out come.

I had two girls in pup at the same time and all my dogs got kennel cough. Both were 6 weeks in whelp and one had four pups with no problems whatsoever, she had a slight cough and none of her pups showed any signs of kc, the other was quite ill with a high temperature and coughing, she had 3 pups one died at 48 hours old and another was pts at 3 weeks old.  Her remaining pup did survive but only with a lot of hard work, sleepless nights and the intervention of my vet on a few occassions to revive the pup and she did have a cough.  She is now two years old and lives a quiet but full life as a companion to a couple who absolultey adore her and of course there grandchildren who are her constant playmates.  I would stress that Mum is quite a small bitch and none of her pups weighed more than three and a half ounces.  She was fine one day and the next coughing violently with a raging temperature.  Why one had no problems with her pups and the other and her pups so ill I don't think we'll ever really know.

All my other dogs were neither up nor down with it, a bit of a cough and a snuffle now and again.  I really hope your friends girl comes through it with nothing more than a cough and goes on to have her pups without any problems just like my other girl.

Hi
Not sure about the early labour but I worked in a kennels for years and saw kennel cough a lot. I have also had my own dogs had it. I bought a cheap harness so there was nothing around the neck causing them to cough (less stress) which seemed to help, but barking will trigger a coughing fit! I also gave a childs dose of Benylin but would ask vet first (or honey). They also had antibiotics. All mine coped really well with it but it is supposed to be worse for very young/old dogs. I would contact the vet about the panting.

Hope the bitch is ok. xxxxxxxxxx

yes she was very bad that why she abo the puppies  early,it took 4 week of abc tablets to kick in, plus to help the puppies though the milk supply.
the trouble with kc you dont know that they got to untill to late when she went off her food a with a sore throat and ucles, which could be contacted to the canines herp virus,
she was tested for chv was clear of that,
the puppies that were born where under weight for a fcr litter,so by the time they were 2 weeks they were up to they birth normal weight, all were still live then but as kc takes 7 to 14 day to come, guess what that what happen the puppies started to go down one by one resulting in secondaly infectoins, result have them pts over the 8 weeks, plus one at 9 weeks,
very very sad for the dam to watch her puppies go. each time we went to vet she would scann the welping box to see how many pups where there and then count again on the return, then going mad beacuse one was missing.
would never like to go though that again.
but we did on her second litter day 52 all die within 24 hours she was put on acp tablets for 24 hours to clam her down,so she was spayed after that. she was my first bred girl in which i kept. liver in colour did well in the ring gaining her jw,but it was not to be to have one of her puppies.

Both my girls with kc had there pups on the date they were due.

Only the girl with the temperature had antibiotics, everyone else
had benilyn and bisolvon and came through it ok.

Hope your friends girl and your own dogs get through it ok.

My bitch had KC but her pups were 3 days old, the first of the 7 pups started coughing at 6 days old and everyone got it over the next 7 days very hard work the puppies had to have antibiotics twices a dayand honey with warm water 9which they didnt like) They were all strong but it did make there little bodies shake when coughing all survived .

Hi Everyone.
I had a bitch with kennel cough when she was about 7 weeks pregnant once.   She was still coughing slightly when she gave birth.  My vet said the pups should have build some sort of defence before they were born because of their mother having it.  Anyway the pups were fine, she gave birth on time, so it didnt cause any problems.
