hi my dog is on day 67,she was early her last litter .
she has no signs at all,i am thinking she never took her first mating .she mated 4 a week .so might have took last mating.
am going take her 2 the vet in the morning if shes still here.
has anyone else had this with there bitch.
shes stays away from my other dogs, and sticks by my side every were i go.she keeps on cleaning herself and stretches allot, she digs sometimes but no allot.can anyone give me advice on this.
it would be very grateful
your shaz

its possible shes not overdue its hard to calulate the exact whelping date without knowing when the dog ovulated. I would get an x-ray if it is one or two puppies it possible that not enough stress hormones are released to induce labor and the puppies can outgrow the placenta

hello there i am sorry i can be of no 'real' help of course it is possible shes not due yet but i have had a freind of mine last year wait and wait for her bitch to whelp but the labour just did not start.i advised to to see the vet which she did.after a few visits to the vet back and forward over a few days the vet did a c section and there was only one pup of which she lost as it was too late.
if i were you in this situation i wouldnt be risking my bitch or the litter i would seek vetinary help asap.JUST TO BE SAFE.
if she is over due then there are ways of dealing with this without a c section,no vet is happy to just unzip a dog just for the hell of it but i would definatly like to know if shes still ok to carry for a little longer.
it does sound close tho,not leaving your side and digging...has she somewhere private to feel safe and secure?
let us know how she goes i have fingers crossed a safe whelping for you both.xx

what other way would there be to deal with being overdue without a c-section??

well what i meant was a c section may not be neeeded straight away.a vet can give a jab to induce contractions cant they?
i wasnt in any way suggesting there will be no need at all for a c section.
a friend of mines great dane was mated and scanned with no pups , eight days after day 63 she gave birth naturally to one big healthy little bitch , both are doing fine very unusual and lucky !

oh bless!!
thats lovely.bet they were chuffed to bits.i would be.oh all warmed my heart.....cant help it im as soft as you like lol

i was puely stateing it happened to my freind not that it could happen to you.
i am a worrier and like to feel that my bitch is A OK id just sooner see a vet than worry.i do hope ive not annoyed anyone.if so i apologise maybe i should state things more clearly??

this is oxytocin and should only be given when the bitch is fully dilated, therefore it is generally only given after the birth of at least one puppy, as it can cause a ruptured uterus (experienced this first hand 2 years ago) would be very hesitant to ever use it again to be honest
hi kelly
shes fine in her self.i am going to take her to the vet in the morning...
she has been panting allot today but putting it down to stress with bloody fire works(should b band)
she then settles again when its quite, she is also still eating ,do all dogs stop eating or just some ?
well any way am going 2 get her checked in the morning so i will let you all no
thanx shaz

If she is this late, I would want to see a vet, even if it is to rule out inertia.

I was at an Angelika von Heimendahl seminar yesterday and she would suggest getting your vet to perform an in-house progesterone test. If progesterone has dropped, the bitch needs a c-section.

no palaminouk not all dogs go off their food ! some eat like mad all the way through (wish mine were like that ).......my girl panted only for a short time on and off from 11pm and had her pups at 9am the next morning ,no nesting ....but she was sick and had the runs 12h before .
good luck and i hope you get her sorted very soon ,as she will be to her dates now if she didnt catch till last mating x
thanks everyone i will get back 2 u later on today at some time
yours shaz x
hope all went well at the vets ??? x
hi took tasha 2 the vet.
shes to go for a c section tomorrow
the vet could see all the spines but he couldn't see any heart beats so am just hoping that he missed 1or2
i will not know until she has her op.
he said that the pups could be mummified?
has this happened to anyone else.i would like to here from you.
i have also asked them to spay her at the same time.
im so sorry to hear this ,but why are they leaving her till then? if pups are dead i dont understand ,or even if they where alive ,surly they should be doing it straight away incase of infection , ive never had this happen to me but she was late when you took her to the vets ...again im so sorry for you and your girls loss x

thanks very much for your reply.
i am hoping there even 1 alive.as it would help her.i though they would have also took her straight away.
they have gave me antibiotics to start today.
i am going to ask them how long they have been dead for if there spines are visible in the scan?the only thing i can think of it bonfire night as shes very frightened of the fire works a gave her tablet from the vet to help her keep a bit calm and i stayed in with her all night.
i could be guessing what would have caused it but i will never no,i just feel sorry that she has been all the way through the pregnancy and nothing at the end poor lassie.
well as long as she is ok after her op that's fine with me as shes my main priority ..i will let you all no
thanxs shaz n tasha.
going by her last mating she would have been due tomorrow,i got her scanned earlier and the pups were all fine?

I'd ask for a c-section NOW if there is any chance whatsoever of any live pup. One of my bitches was pregnant and a scan showed two spines but only one heartbeat. The scanner thought she may have misread it and there was only one pup. Turned out the second pup was dead. The first pup was alive, most definitely. Late evening day 63 I felt it move, very clearly. The next day the pups were born and BOTH were dead. Had the live one been removed as soon as we noticed there was no heartbeat from the other it may well have lived. (The one that died first was black and decomposing, much smaller than the one that just had died.) The same bitch is now pregnant again and I'm having regular scans to check for heartbeats. It's two pups again. If either heartbeat disappears and the timing isn't too early, I'm demanding a c-section instantly.
sorry i thought she was on day 67 , i wish fireworks where band !!!!!!! ,you must be going out your mind ! . mybe the fear could do it ? lets hope 1 or 2 alive ,could well be if her date is tomorrow x
i asked my vet for the op the day when he told me they were dead he also said they could be mummified?
hes said he could only do it tomorrow morning.
so shes booked in then.i could only see 1 spine he said 2,so am hoping she will still have a live pup?
am really upset for her and worried also
according to her last mating she would be due tomorrow she was mated a full week.
might have been to long for her a don't know as the first time she was mated 2 within 48 hrs and had 5 pups but only 1 survived so i kept her.
i am never going to breed again as its heart braking watching the poor dog going through this.
she is getting spayed tomorrow also.
How have her temperature readings been going?
PS It's never a good idea to mate a bitch over a full week for any would-be breeder reading this thread. :(
her temp been fine and she fine within herself .shes still eating and drinking and her usual self.
she was cleaning herself and digging last nite.
but went calm today.
i though a week was aslo bit long, she was standing for the dog so thats why the breader told me to keep taking her back
am going of line to be with her will pop back on later on .
and let you all know how she is xx
her temp been fine and she fine within herself
No I don't mean 'not high'. Plotting the temperature is a way of judging when bitches are due to whelp and can give an indication about whether they need to be unzipped.

My girl lost a litter, it died at 5 weeks and she delivered her dead mummified pups at just over 7 weeks, spines were visible on the scan and x-ray, just no heart beats. Sadly the whole litter died :-( my vet said there wasn't any chance of any surviving 2 weeks after the rest died and sadly he was right.
I know it's not nice, but I do have pictures of the dead mummified pups if anybody is interested. I won't post the link here, but pm me, be warned it's not nice.

the jab you mean is oxytocin which can only be given after a pup has been delivered

oh dear, hopefully it will be okay can you feel them moving at all??
so sorry to hear your news my meg has just lost her litter on sunday it was devestating hopefully there will be one left goodluck

Fingers crossed for you that there is a viable pup still there.
To those of you who have lost whole litters my heart goes out to you and your girls. :-(
THANKS FOR THE SEPORT FROM EVERYONE
tasha is fine and well, there was only 1 pup and it was beginning to mummify she must have reabsorbed the rest.
they said she was luck when i took her, because her horn the pup was in was was swollen and begin to get an infection. they seen this the safest thing to do was spay her,i said that was fine as i was going to get her spayed after word.
shes ok i will let u no the rest later vas spending time with her
thanxs again tasha @sharon
