Maybe ring round some local vets so they can keep their ears out for motherless puppies? So sorry to hear about this. :-(

Don't have an answer for you, but I had a girl that had only one pup, that lived less than a day.  She pined awful, and it was so upsetting to hear her cry.

I had to bite the bullet and get her over it.  Less food, more exercise, toys removed etc.   It broke my heart, but I had to get her milk dried up, and get her interacting with the rest of the gang again.  I hated being practical, but it was best for Rosie.

6 years ago we lost a litter very similar circumstances, my bitch was scanned at 5 weeks, we clearly saw 8+ pups, she started bleeding so I feared the worst, she was scanned twice weekly right up to day 51 when my vet confirmed the litter had 'gone' day 56 she delivered 2 mummified dead pups but no sign of the other 6.  2 WEEKS later she passed another two, but that was it.  She was put on a course of very strong AB's, it was never suggested opening her up though to clean her out, 2 years after she went on to have a healthy litter of 8 again, with no problems.  She has now been spayed.

I did actually take pictures of the mummified pups, they looked like miniature pups curled up in the foetal position, but very black, about the size of a golf ball.

It took her about 2 weeks before she stopped mourning her pups, we just tried to get her back to her normal routine, removing any soft toys etc that would remind her of her babies, lots of extra walks once she recovered.

I've heard of this. Friend's Bitch scanned at 5 weeks and had 8+ puppies, but when section eventually done, only one huge dead puppy.

As I understood it a bitch can absorb up to the 6 week mark so that makes sense.

I'm sorry to read about your bitch. :(

My bitch was scanned at 4 and 5 weeks and we saw 6 pups on the first scan and 5 on the second one, so we continued as normal and they were due last Wednesday.  She is fatter etc and I had no reason to assume that she had lost them.  She has had no discharge, no temperature, and has been very well, so when she went over a couple of days, we took her to the Vet who scanned and xrayed her, and there was not 1 puppy in there :(  I was shocked and gutted.

The more people I have spoken to about this, I've realised that this isn't entirely uncommon but I'd assume that my bitch would have shown some signs of distress or illness, but she hasn't.  She doesn't seem any the wiser tbh.

I hope you can get your girl sorted out, it must be very distressing for you all :( xx

How devastating for you & your girl.  I hope she gets over it quickly.  I think dogs forget quicker than us humans - sending you cyber hugs.
