My most recent litter are breaking all my general "rules"!!! Grrr...

They are not very interested in the lovely puppy mush that I make for them, they are much more interested in eating the biscuits dry. Should I leave them to the dry or keep them away from it and make them eat it wet?

They are only 4 ½ weeks old. I've never had 4 ½ weeks old pups into dry biscuit! They have completely taken me by surprise.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks.

imo i wouldnt let 4 1/2 week old pups eat dry food even if it was a large breed ,id be to worried about them choking ,even the small kibbles can get stuck :( ...keep up with the wet food maybe add some mince to it , good luck x

i wouldnt just be worried about them choking, id be worried about the amount of fluids dry biscuit takes out of their body, no matter how much they are drinking

we sadly lost one of our babies at 6 weeks of age due to her choking on some dried puppy biscuit. so please carry on soaking it , it was a terrible experiance and i would hate anyone to go through what happened to us :-(

I would soak it and then add mince or scrambled egg on top to encourage them to eat.

I weaned my last litter on nature diet , you can also heat it up in the microwave mash it up and they loved it.

These are all the concerns that I had - I have been using soaked kibble and I have tried mixing with mince, naturediet, canned puppy meat (winalot, butchers and pedigree) and they turn their nose up at everything except dry biscuit!!! Nightmare...

One thing to remember is a dog will rarely starve itself.

I appreciate that but they are turning their nose up at what I give them and just suckling off mum which is what I want to avoid!

thay just might not be that bothard about food just yet ,are they a small breed ? small breeds can take alot longer to wean i remember my mum in laws pups didnt eat till about 5weeks old and then would only eat if they hadnt had any milk from mum for about 5h :( ....so she had to keep mum away from them , thay may just see the kibble as a toy and thats why thay are more interested in it , how long do you leave it from mum giving them milk to tring them with food? x
