Do any of you wonderful people know of any good anti-slip rug backings? I've recently renovated our wooden floors and would prefer to keep them in pretty good condition if possible (with 6 dogs, 2 of which are lunatics, it won't be easy!). The problem I'm having is in the hallway. Whenever the door bell goes, or they think they've heard something, they go tearing into the hall sending the runners I've got down flying. So I put some anti-slip backing down, looks sort of like felt but is a bit tacky. It was fine for a couple of weeks, but once it has been moved about (by the dogs) a few times, it loses it's tackiness.

Anyone got any better ideas?

I got some rug gripper from Lidl a few weeks ago, which seems better than the slightly-tacky felt.  I can best describe it as a sort of rubberised mesh - the closest I can find on the net is this, which as far as I can see from the picture looks pretty much like it. Anyway, it seems to work well (I have it under a rug on a large wooden box under the window, that the dogs bounce off and on, and otherwise goes flying all over the place), and you might be able to get it for a good price somewhere.

I've got a number of friends with laminate floors and they use non-slip backed vet bed for their carpets!  Another friend with a laminate floor, nice rugs, and active mutt got a roll of Grip a Rug from Lakeland, she says it works, you apparently just cut it to length and stick to the back of the mat!  http://www.lakeland.co.uk/grip-a-rug/F/keyword/rug/product/4583

Jeangenie, that looks like the stuff I bought in B&Q or Homebase (or somewhere like that in the UK).  I have to wash it periodically because the dust and dirt clings to it and then makes it less 'grippy' for the rugs, but it's pretty good.  Not perfect though, but then is anything perfect.

I bought that Grip-a-Rug stuff from Lakeland...it was rubbish and lost it' stickiness really quickly.  It would have cost me a fortune to buy it as I would have had to renew it weekly.

I have a rubber backed hall runner from Ikea...only cost about £8 and stays exactly where it should :-) 

Laura Ashley  underlay.. the stuff is bl**dy marvelous, it sticks like glue, once your rung in on top, they do not move, either on wooden/laminate/carpet.

Yes. We brought ours from Ikea, it looks very much like the one Jeangenie has posted a link to. It wasn't expensive and we've been very happy with it.
