Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Mucus Plug?

After some opinions please! My girl is day 56 today and yesterday (day 55) she lost alot of mucus - about a tablespoon full - when I was trimming her coat ready for whelping. She has been discharging a small amount throughout her pregnancy but this was way way more. Today she has refused her breakfast and her temperature is only very slightly down - it was 37.7 at 10pm last nice and is 37.4 at 8am today.

Do you thinkthat was the mucus plug that she lost and if so generally how long before labour starts???? I know they can have pups from about day 57 but I'm hoping shes not starting too soon!

Thanks in advance.

hope this puts your mind at rest :) 1 of my girls started to loose her plug a week before she whelped and there was alot of it too ,just dont leave her now to be on the safe side :) also if you do her temp twice a day (at the same times) each aday you will get to know her patten ,my girl was always lower in the mornings , also her temp will go lower then 37.4 ....my last girl that whelped was up and down like mad and then 24h before whelp it went down to 35.6 and when back up to 36.6 12h before she whelped ...good luck xx

Thanks for replying to this one. My girl lost hers late last week. She is due on Sunday. However, been taking her temperature and all is okay but nice to hear someone elses experience.

Do you know, I love this site, it is brilliant for info. I am not a big breeder, in fact only bred 3 litters prior to this so I am still learning but we all come up against problems that we haven't had before etc. It is great when people share their experiences. Thanks
