I am extremely concerned about a situation that i have at home. My husband and I just brought home a 5 week old black lab female. we currently have a 3 year old yellow female at home. The yellow loves the puppy and will assert her dominance by pushing the puppy around with her nose, sometimes overturning her. At times though, the puppy will growl and try to nip at the yellow and when she is kept from going somewhere by myself or my husband, she growls or tried to bite. She seems very headstrong and i'm worried that we got ourselves a serious problem and that our yellow is so good, how could we do this to her by bringing this dominate pup into our home. any and all advice would be appreciated.

As far as her behaviour with the older bitch is concerned I would leave it the the bitch to sort out, but with you it is a different matter, dont put up with it, dump her on the floor and walk away or put her in another room and shut the door, saying NO as you go. Don't worry shes just trying it on and if you deal with it now it wont be a problem.

5 weeks is very young to have left the nest, a pup would normaly be rough and tumble with it's litter, learning the limits of how hard to bite and who to push around, it's not your pups fault that it has been brought into your home away from the nest so young, with a bit of luck your older bitch will take over the pups upbringing.
