Don't know if this will be of any help...we got Lolli as a resuce dog 5 years ago and she had an extremely bad case of seperation anxiety .We tried everything! Finally our vet recomended Clomacalm.(clomipramine hydrochloride).the best way to discribe it is puppy prozac. It was a God send!
We had her on it for about nine months...it was the most constructive time of training, peace of mind leaving her alone, and set the bar for a wonderful dog. We had no problems after that. Lolli is a sweetheat today! I'm not sure where exactly you are from. I don't know if something like this is available
in your area but it could be something for you to look into.

hello ... geeze i have only been a member of this board for like a few hours but i have sooo much helpfulinfo for you guyz :D

ok dont laugh please try it and tell me how it goes
someone mentioned a recently worn item of clothing well .... try this

have an old piece of clothing and wear it to bed for a few nights with out washing and have your partner do the same :D
then one evening whilst you have a talking head on sit and just alk about anything with your partner but tape it all on a 80min tape or something like that have the tv on in the backgroud too so there is plenty of sound on the tape !

then as you do this every 2 mins to start with stop what your talking about suddenly and shout at the top of your voice "NO!" then increase the time by a minute until by the end of 80 mins the gap is about 8 mins ...ya with me ?

also over the period of a week get your dogf used to being in a different room to you but make it so that he hears you talking and knows your there... this is a suming he is not used to this already! if he is then skip to next part ....

try it for 10 mins to start with .

pop him in the designated room use the same room for containment when you are there as when you are out so that he does not realise the assotiation.
put your items of clothing in his bed/crate with door open and put a towel or sheet over his crete so he can go hid if he is frigtened by something.
then set you tape playing and if possible get a tape play the plays over and over ya know automatic reverse or something like that! pop your tape in and place the stero out of the dogs reach facing the wall (the spaekers facing the wall) so he cant figggure that the sound is coming from the recorder/stereo.

go out as quietly as you can so he is not alerted to your departure... (use a door on the other side of the house to the room he is in if possible...also come back through that door only)

give it wirl and eventualy you will be able to turn the volume down a little each week and then eventualy off and problem solved :)

it does worked as i have tried it myself :D with my collie he is 7 months old and can handle being left alone with no trouble yet when we first got him at 11 weeks old he pooed in his crate and weed and got in a right old mess ect ect ... and now he is fine :)

please let me know how it goes and dont leave any of the above out in this exersise as only the combined things will work .... ohh and please make sure you change the clothing regularly say every 3 days ... it is best to wear the cloths at night as you will make it smell much more ;) lol

ohh one more tip the time between you turning on the tape and heading out the door do not speak or you will confuse him with hearing your voices from 2 different places he may well suss whats going on anyway if ya speak ! :)

Beth N said something about the night night biscuit ____when you go out in the day ,what is different from when you go to bed ?
Hope this is making sense ;)
If he sleeps at night ok ,then if you keep the routine the same when you go out ?
If you've already tried or thought of this then sorry
Have you thought about black out blinds for the kitchen ( then he might think it's night )

He sleeps in the living room at night ....with no problems ..lights go out and off he goes to lie down by the patio doors :) We tried the same thing when we went out ..but he gets destructive when he realises we are not in the house ...so thats why we changed to the kitchen in the daytime.

How about doing it the other way around. Get him to sleep in the kitchen at night form now on, and then it won't be any different when you go out???

Because of the reason above Brainless (why ARE you called that? You sound sensible to me :D ) can you imagine the noise at night?? The neighbours are in then and they have 2 small children ..plus *I* have 2 young children too.
