Hi guys,

I am new here and have a few questions regarding my staffordshire puppy.

He is 15 weeks old and at the moment we are feeding him dry food three times a week.....however we are not sure from the details we have how much and how often.

When we feed him three times (first thing in a morning, Late afternoon and 9.00pm ish) approx 75grams a sitting, he seems to pick at the last meal and doesnt really eat it.

Is it safe at 15 weeks to change him to two meals a day, morning and evening and feed him slightly more i.e. 100 grams a sitting??

Also can anyone comment on combing foods...i.e. biscuits in a morning and then wet food and biscuits in the evening?

Also are these measures right for a 5 to 5.5 kilo puppy.

advice and help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there jay1403

3 times a day sounds fine to me, though I would (and did) feed at breakfast, lunchtime and what I'd call 'normal' supper time, i.e. around 5-6pm, rather than the last feed at 9pm.  It might be a little late in the day for his little tum?
I know that sounds a bit like a 'human' response to feeding times, but I'm just thinking that at 9pm it's the time when the house, family and probably the pup are starting to settle down for the evening.  After all it's a looooooong day for a pup :)

I'd still be tempted to keep pup on 3 meals a day at his age.

As for weights and measures - how does he look?  What does the brand of food you're feeding suggest?
Is he looking very fat, a bit slim, it's really hard to tell without seeing him.

Again, with combining food, it's completely up to you.  See how he goes on combining wet food with dry, though remember that if you're feeding a complete food, adding wet food is not always necessary.

It's a while since either of my two were pups, so I can't remember at what stage we cut down from 3 meals per day to 2, but I'm reasonably sure it was around 6 months old (I might be wrong though - sorry!).

Reading back over my post doesn't seem very helpful!!  Sorry!

Also, did you get a puppy advice sheet from your breeder?

Actually, just gone and had a look at my two's health records.

My bitch (at around 20 weeks old) weighed in at 11.4kg and my young man weighed 10kg at 16 weeks old.

i think 15 weeks is too early to cut meals out - we cut down from 3 meals to 2 meals at 6 months old with our 2

i would say 9pm is late for a last feed - id do it around 5-7pm at the latest

as for weights and measure as above - if he looks too skinny feed him more, if he looks too chunky cut him down a bit , u should be able to see their last rib
