HI my sisters girls waters broke about 5pm, how long should it be before pups?  She is ok no pushing yet, just restless and panting, how long would you happily let her carry on like this?
Thanks guys!!
xx

Are you sure she hasn't had a big wee, or lost the mucus plug? Bitches' waters don't "break" like women's do. Each puppy is inside its own waterbag, and once broken she should be contracting hard. A few minutes rest perhaps, but not much more.

No it was a gush of water and then still a little leaking.  I have referred to the book of the bitch and it does describe what has happened and that a pup she be soon, but no time scale.

If a pup hadn't emerged within 40 minutes I would be at the veterinary hospital.

Spoke to the vets as she was still comfortable they are happy to let her continue, as long as she isn't pushing!

If her waters broke 5 hours ago, I would not accept a vet that allowed things to continue.

What if this bitch has inertia?

Yes all born about midnight, so a good 7 hours after the waters going.  All healthy certainly no distress fom pups or mum!  Perhaps it wasn't a water sack going, I was just going on the information I had been given.  Any how alls well!  Thank you..
