what do people advise starting a litter (medium sized gundog breed) on as their first solids??

what is mum eating ? i always put mum on a good puppy food 2 weeks before pups are due ,and i will ween the pups on the same food ...i just soak well with cooled boiled water ,i make it very sloppy for the first week and then start to add less water till its just soft at 5weeks ,but to start with i sometimes add a small amount of mince to get them eating .....:)

thanks
Mum is on science plan large breed puppy, but the pieces seem a bit big for new puppies-mince seems good-presumably raw? I usually start them at 8 weeks on the james wellbeloved puppy kibble soaked so I guess that is ok at 3 weeks as well with more liquid added?

I put the kibble in a blender to make a powder then add boiling water to it, wait till its cooler and then give it to pups at about 3 weeks, gradually give bigger pieces that are soaked for less time so that by the time they are eight weeks they are having dry kibble.  If you want to give the pups science plan the they do puppy food for smaller puppies which you could use to start with.

did u know that science plan shouldnt be used for pregnent bitches ?? i only know that because 1 of my dogs are on that 1 and was reading it on the bag !! ...theres not enough vits and iron i think ?? have alook i carnt get to my bag at the mo !! ......raw mince is great but make sure u get it frozen ...defrost 1st and feed raw but why dont you just start them on jb at 3weeks with the mince in it ....very runny and blended like said ,thats how i do it. then pups not get upset tum at 8weeks ...hope you dont mind me asking why do you start giving jb at 8weeks and not at time of weaning? do you keep the pups till alot later than 8weeks ?
when is your girl due ? and good luck :) x

Adding boiling water may destroy the vitamins.  I always let it cool before adding it.

Same as White Lilly but I add nutrolac puppy milk.  The kibble size is not relevant as it is mashed down.

Having just been on the phone to Hills after reading this post as I have my pregnant bitch on Hills puppy,  I thought I'd just let people know what they said.
Hills puppy small and medium is perfect for mums to be however not the large breed puppy!!!  this is because it isnt as high in calories althougth is higher than the adult and doesnt have just as much calcium.
