Now I don't pretend to understand the finer points of gymnastics but at the end of the day a British Girl was Champion of the Floor on Sunday.  I watched her performance & was very impressed.  Let's face it, it's not often Brits win at Gymnastics!  I only found out yesterday morning of her achievement as I'd taped the Gymnastics & watched it in the following day.

I think what surprised me was the fact that I hadn't watched motor sport but knew Jenson Button was a national hero!  No mention Sunday or yesterday of this young girl's achievement, but they're already talking of Jenson Button getting sports personality of the year?!  Oh well, what do I know, but here's to you Beth Tweddle, a great performance that Britain should be proud of.

It was mentioned a lot on BBC Breakfast yesterday and she was on The One Show last night :) :)

Oh good.  I started watching the One Show but she wasn't listed on the info on the tv so I didn't bother watching.  didn't hear it on the radio but then again, I listen to local stuff :-)

I agree, we hear loads about some sports and very little about others. Beth Tweddle did really well at the last Olympics if I remember rightly, I think she was in a medal position until almost the end of the competition.

I remember when Carl Foggarty was winning superbikes every year, he didn't get a look in for Sport's personality of the year until her retired.  Oh well, I'll get down from my soap box now ;-)

She was on GMTV the next day, just a quick interview due to the celebrations the night before!

Yeah, she mentioned how others are on the front pages of the papers etc, and you had to search for her achievement on about page 7 or 8 in most papers with just a small article.

I believe that the BBC showed it live... that was a first!

She was fantastic but unfortunately she was overshadowed by Jenson Button. He seemed to get all the front pages and big news coverage, and the gymnastics got a brief mention.
Hopefully Britain is on its way up with gymnastic events :-) I dont know much but thoroughly enjoy watching it.

you know we had a male gymnast win an overall 2nd as well( sorry his name escapes me), so a fantastic double for GB. Heard Beth commented that she was still waiting for her phonecall from the prime minister!! lol

Ottoman - His name is Daniel Keatings. I was a gymnast for about 10 years and the amount of coverage it recieves hasn't changed much. It's no wonder we don't have many top winning gymnasts, our gymnasts don't get the funding like the gymnasts from a lot of other countries do. A lot of other things go into making a winning gymnast, but until the funding and facilities change, we will still only have the one off winners such as Beth Tweddle and Daniel Keatings. Their medal wins are a lot more impressive as they have to work harder to achieve them than a lot of others.
