I have a litter of 3 week old pups. They started with sniffly noses last week so immediately I took them to the vets. They had their temps taken and lungs listened to etc and vet decided they were fine, just flat faces and feeding greedily that was causing it.

He gave them an antibiotic jab just in case and said if I saw an improvement in the couple of days following then he was obviously wrong and they needed a course of antibiotics.

I've seen no improvement with the sniffles and the pups are all well in themselves, all feeding, just starting to walk about and try some solids. I'm just really worried and considering getting a second opinion.

Has anyone else ever had anything like this with their pups? It's not something I have ever seen before?

I had a litter last winter and several of the puppies were snuffly - but from birth as oppose to from a fortnight old like yours. I attributed it to perhaps not having cleared their airways sufficiently at birth (hence my thread re bulb syringes). Vet gave them biosolvon (which helps to clear up any mucous) and also antibiotics, and it did improve and ultimately they were fine. It was as if they had a cold tbh. It was a big worry at the time though because they were so tiny. They always seemed worse straight after a feed which fits in with what your vet said. I wouldn't worry too much about yours as they are three weeks old and seem well in themselves and are feeding, etc. But to put your mind at rest you could take them back to the vets just to make sure.

I have had this before but pups were well in themselves but just sounded a bit snuffly at times.
I put a few drops of Olbas oil around their bedding area and had no problems

Thanks guys. Did either of yours have any discharge from their nose? Mine do but it is clear like water, not thick and snotty like an infection which was why the vet wasn't worried. Their eyes are also perfectly clear.

Yes, mine were exactly as you describe - discharge was clear like water and not thick at all.
Now your pups are getting up on their feet and soon to be weaned, I am sure things will improve as mine did. But just keep your eye on them (as I am sure you are doing !) and any doubts pop them back to the vets.
