Went Back to the vets again today and Archer is on the mend!!!!! He has servere muscle wastage but after 11 months of op's and recouperation its what is expected.The vet did comment that his lack of condition(very hollow behind the ribs and overall lack of weight)was due to his body sending all its resources to heal his leg so hopefully he'll start looking better soon too.
He says would take something really drastic to set him back now so we can now concentrate on a slow regime of reducing medication and increasing exercise to build him up.
