My tt is nearly 6 months and although very good most of the time still has accidents in the house. What I am puzzled at though is she goes last thing at night around midnight. I get up around 7.30 but Bessie can stay with my OH until he gets up much later and sometimes doesn't go outside until around 9.30am. She doesn't seem desperate but at that time does do a long wee. I can't find any evidence of puddles in the house. Can they really go that long without going do you think ? Seems strange to me.

I am sure if they are asleep they can go a very long time without a wee.
A little puppy can't go very long, but yours is almost an adult now, so i am sure she can. When they get old they can't go so long again.

I have a bernese that can hang on for nearly 2 days when we are on holiday as she won't go in strange places :-) We usually spend the first couple of days of any holiday looking for somewhere she can 'go', usually a river or the sea :-o, when she does 'go' it takes ages. So yes she probably can go for 8 hours. My setter had accidents for much longer than the bernese, mostly because she wont ask out if the back door is shut!

Our chi will hold on sometimes from bed time to 10.00/11.00am and has to be encouraged to go out especially when its wet. Other days she will leaves puddles randomly or go out each time.and she is coming up to 18months.
I have given up on the idea that she will ever be reliable. I just think she is a little minx !! Oh yes and she never asks to go out either

It's a relief to read other dogs are the same lol I can put the magnifying glass away and stop searching for damp patches each morning! Furriefriends my Bessie is the same as your Chi - when it's raining she's very reluctant to put a paw out unless she see's a frog on the patio which she loves to chase. She does go to the back door when wanting to go out but just looks at me then the door which is fine if I am in the same room but if I'm not she won't bark or whine to let me know and that's when I'm likely to find a puddle or heap waiting for me!

One of my adult tts goes out for a wee at 10 pm and refuses to go out next morning with the others. She will have a wee if we have a morning walk but if we delay until late afternoon for any reason, she hangs on until then. I was really worried so pleased to see this thread, although she seems to be absolutely fine and wee is normal.

I have a Chihuahua and i researched them well, i believe Chihuahua are one of the hardest breeds to house train and some times never train fully. I agree about the rain thing, mine refuses to go out in the rain and i have to pick her up and stay with her till she i done. However i do love the fact that Chihuahua's are sun worshipers, i dont know about yours but when i let mine out in the garden, if there is a sun spot she will sit in it and slowly moves around the garden with the sun spot ha ha.

oh yes she loves warmth. Have just started this week putting the gas fire on in the evenings, there she is laying stretched out infront of the fire.
On the house training she just jumped off my lap and squated on the carpet little devil !

I've always said that mine has a super bladder. I will come down in the morning and open the door for her to go out whereupon she turns round and goes back to her bed! She may hold on and refuse to go out in the garden until I take her out - at least 12 hours sometimes I would say. On the odd occasion she will wake me up to go out in the early hours. It is surprising that she only has to do her little 'grumbling' sound and it wakes me even though she is shut in the kitchen and I am upstairs in bed.

I was surprised to read this!
I am always boasting about how Chi's are the easiest small dogs I've ever owned. My Yorkshire Terriers are the slowest and the hardest, along with Bichons.
I think we all have different experiences, and it's just one of those things that we learn to live with!
I will say that my Border Collie boy was the easiest in the world! :-)

Jeansw I think when we get our next little one I will be on to you for advice, after three big dogs all housetrained rapidly and trained to use one area in the garden by command this one is abit of a shock. i just accept it now and try an stay vigilant giving her treats when its right and ignore the mistakes

Bit late joining in with this but.. Is it me or are all these dogs female? Are bitches more able/prone to 'hold on' than males - even if it's because it's too wet/cold/windy/dark etc outside?
> Is it me or are all these dogs female
Mm interesting. Mine is female, yes. havent got any boys, so cant comment on that.

My chihuahua female took about 8 years before she decided she wanted to be house trained (notice i said she, i'm sure she was fooling me all along), my Mini Schnauzer girl, approx 4-6 weeks. I think its more to do with how the breeder taught the puppies. My Chi the breeder said paper train, in my Mini Schnauzer i was advised to go outside immediately and never use paper. Also my MS breeder had already set Ima up in a routine and was already dry throughout the night when i got her. Ima continued on the breeders regime when we took her home and we followed this to the letter and we never have had a problem (touch wood, touches head). Maybe it is the breed? Some do tend to pick things up quicker. In the case of the Chihuahua, they are such clever little dogs, i never believed she didn't know what she was doing, i firmly believe she knew when she was being naughty, they really just don't care!!! lol
